New version with Sudoku and Kakuro

Kakuros are not generated, I added a few examples from http://www.krazydad.com/kakuro/. You can create them yourself by loading the appropriate size from the empty-kakuro folder, creating/copying the content and saving it.

This version also has Russian translation, tanks to Viacheslav.

Copy the Programs.zip over the Programs directory on your SD card. (If you are busy playing a game, you might want to save your last_game-file.) The other file contains all the sources. Start the Anjuta-project, enable the Poky-plug-in, do an AutoGenerate and a Configure --prefix=/usr and build the stuff if you want to build yourself.

The next thing I will be working on is a nicer way to select the games, the current file-dialog is a pain-in-the-**s to work with.

The Russian translation in mxsudoku-0.9 is old, so here is an update. Put the mxsudoku.mo file into Programs/_mxSudoku/locale/ru/LC_MESSAGES folder.

Oops, did I forget to include your latest version?

BTW - Sudoku runs perfect with the new firmware 1.6. Now more hangs or waiting times for reaction after a selection.

With the new R1.6 firmware the problem with the toolbar icons has been solved. Copy the attached files into the \Programs\_mxSudoku\icons folder of your SD card and you will have toolbar icons (only info does not seem to work).

Do you mean the black bar at the bottom of the screen once mxSudoku is started? If so, I'm curious to know what I did wrong, because they are not shown there.

Yes, at the left bottom (in the toolbar) there are 8 'marked positions' for icons.
Were you able to add icons to the toolbar in other applications?
Did anyone else succeed? (I might have something special in my DR...)

I haven't experimented much with my DR yet. I've only installed FBreader and Xournal besides mxSudoku. No porting of apps or writing my own yet.

When starting FBreader or Xournal I get 3 icons in the toolbar. For both apps it is the same set of 3 and they appear to be default icons from iRex for 'home', list, etc. For mxSudoku no icons at all are shown and clicking on one of the empty spaces for icons in the toolbar has no effect.

I'll try to get the vmware image I dl'd up and running with v1.6 and see if I can get anywhere with that.

FBReader and Xournal do not have a 'DR-native' menu, they are normal GTK programs that have a 'normal' 'desktop'-menu. mxSudoku has a native menu. It seems that programs that do not have a native menu, show the default icons in the toolbar. However, programs with native menus not, because they allow you to drag menu-items from the native menu to the toolbar. See section 8.4 of the user manual.

You seem to have mis-read my remark. By saying "Were you able to add icons to the toolbar in other applications?" I was referring to draging&dropping 'native'-menu icons to the toolbar in other 'native' applications of the DR.
But it is good to see that there is again someone willing to spend some of his time on developing applications for the DR! Take a look in the Development Environment document from iRex which explains very well how to get started. Also take a look at this, were I documented my experience of porting xournal (and making it a little bit native).

They needn't be numbers, of course. Sudoku has nothing to do with arithmetic - it's purely a logic puzzle. It would work equally well with letters, pictures of cute furry animals, or anything else that you may choose to use .

Ah, for the link. It is working now.

Goes to show I should pay closer attention to updates of the user manual. The changes between the January 2009 version I had and the February version you linked are huge; this addition being one of the changes.
