Kindle 2 update just applied - Page 2

This update came as I big surprise to mi madre. She was sync'ing to Calibre to grab some feeds and the update automatically came up. It seems that at least in her case, the update only triggered when she was physically linked up to a PC via a USB cable. One thing I'm not certain of is when exactly the download occurred. She has charged the unit via the wall outlet adapter several times already, and there was no notice of an update. Anyways, this all seemed very odd. I'm wondering if this update doesn't perhaps have hidden implementation for Amazon's policy change concerning TTS? Just a thought. Anyways, enjoy your books everyone. -Abi

Well, this explains why out of the corner of my eye I saw my Kindle flash, go from the screensaver to the home page and then back a little while later. I thought it was curious at the time and was waiting to see it happen again. Glad its not a defect and just an update!

Well, it didn't answer my question, so I emailed again, asking if there was no functional difference, what was the purpose of the software upgrade? And this is their reply:

"Hello,

Amazon Kindle support has been supplied with no information regarding this upgrade other than the information that was already provided. I apologize I am unable to provide further information regarding this.

If you have any further questions or if this email did not resolve the problem you encountered you may contact Kindle support directly through phone by calling 1-866-321-8851 or using the Contact Us option in the right-hand column of our Kindle Support pages at:"

So, sirbruce was correct.

But I still don't see it as a waste of time........I wanted an answer, and got it.

They either don't know what the fork they are doing, or don't care to publicize it.

I vote for the second option.

I have a question.......my replacement Kindle 2 is version 2.0 and the one I am sending back is version 2.01. I am not able to update my new Kindle (the update prompt is grayed out) and CS said that perhaps I can't update as they were having problems with version 2.01 and have not updated all Kindle 2s as yet. Has anyone heard this? I am concerned as I believe I should be able to have the current version on my Kindle. Any thoughts?

Search for the instructions to update via your computer on this forum. It's very easy.

Since the current update doesn't actually do anything, you have not worries.

It took my K1 a long time to be able to update to 1.2 but when it did, it did so automatically.

Yours should do the same thing. Sometimes, it just takes a little patience. Something we're all short of when it comes to our K's....

I have a lot more confidence and vim and vigour with the new update. Friends have noticed.

That is why the new update is so powerful, it makes one think that a person had vim and vigor in the past when in fact there was none. I can only imagine what the next update will bring, although folders would be kind of a let down.
