I just got a Kindle 1 and am loving it. But when I thought to look for some my favorite reads of all time, I was disappointed. These are older books, including A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole, The Executioner's Song, by Norman Mailer, The Fan Man, by William Kotzwinkle, and Sometimes a Great Notion, by Ken Kesey. Maybe it's saving me money because I have the hard copies, except for Sometimes a Great Notion, which I loaned to a neighbor who then moved away (another plus for the Kindle).

I found a pdf of A Confederacy of Dunces online and it now resides on my Kindle, my first conversion through Amazon's Kindle email. Today I purchased Kesey's One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and Truman Capote's In Cold Blood in the Kindle Store.

I hope everyone here routinely clicks on the link provided for seemingly every nonKindle book in the regular Amazon bookstore, "I'd like to read this book on Kindle". Amazon forwards the request to the publisher. Please include those named above.

It's easier for me to list what isn't there: a lot of John Irving, no Faulkner, no Grisham, no Tolkien. Otherwise, I have plenty to keep me busy.

You get the books that you want, otherwise what's the point of a kindle?

Yes and no. Some of the books I do want to read are avaliable either on Amazon or at other online stores in other formats. However it's kind of limiting for me at times as I tend to be a SciFi and Fantasy reader. However I love reading Dungeons and Dragons books but there are almost none avaliable as ebooks. There are also cased when it comes to to other series where only the first book is avaliable. Or where the first or first series aren't yet other books in the series are. For example take the Sword of Truth series. The first book is out and there is some short story connected to one of the later books yet nothing else. Or the Riftwar series of books. A good number of them are out yet the very first series is nowhere to be found in any format from what I can tell. So it can be pretty frustrating. Had I know I'd have these issues I might not have gotten a Kindle (or accepted it as a presented as that's how I got it and asked for it to be returned). However there are other times when I love the device. It's becoming a like/dislike type of issue with me.

However I don't think that might be an issue if you tend to read and focus on other types of books.

Most of the books I want to read are already available on the Kindle or will be very soon. I also read a lot of books that members at various boards recommend.

I would like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King. There have been a couple of others but those are the only ones I really want.
