Hi ever'body,

I'm going to post this in the writer's forum area as well, but since you all were really helpful in my model design, I thought I'd announce this here. I have my book, The Textile Planet, loaded and ready for download from BookViewCafe. If anybody is up for it (and haven't already downloaded this, according to the stats, it's already been downloaded over 200 times), it would be great if you'd test the flow for me. I'm trying out this idea that owl123 gave me to harvest email addresses. I set it up without using BVC's platform so it might be weird. I just want to know if the system works, seems dumb, or is in any way inelegant. Feel free to read the book. If you don't want to leave your email just put "mobilereads" or something like that in the email field. If you want to be on my newsletter emailing list, by all means leave your email.

Looks interesting I'm glad you don't validate the email address and that I can just input anything -- because if I'd just wandered in there by chance without having read this thread, I would probably have left there, before going any further.

Usually I don't want/like to register at sites, unless it's necessary for something I definitely want, like buying something or a newsletter I am already interested in. I don't want to do it in this case for exactly the reason you want to collect my email -- because you might want to send me emails later. As it is, I don't have any incentive for wanting to sign up (because I don't know what I'm getting), and if I thought I'd had to do it to get further on, it's very likely I would have left at this stage

Hi Sue -- I went to your site but I am unable to use it and wonder what I am not understanding about your interface? For example I go to Science Fiction and I see Vonda McIntyre's novel and I see how I can read it onscreen chapter by chapter. But I thought these ebooks were downloadable material to read on an ebook reader (such as my Kindle 2)? I note how if you buy a premium title it has a download-a-pdf option. But I have to say that if I cannot download free books from your area I will be unlikely to return because the whole reason I bought a Kindle is I absolutely hate reading books on a computer monitor. Hope to hear from you.

More formats is better. PDF doesn't read well e-ink devices generally speaking.

Neil, I think Sue plans to put up more formats very soon. She mentions so earlier in the tread , and that she haven't had the time yet.

i also don't like to register to download books. maybe another way is to offer an email newsletter that will not only offer a few free downloads not listed in the site but also offers discounts and news.

and becoming part of a few ebook communities by posting regularly on various topics can help keep your site fresh in people's minds. and of course, it doesn't hurt to have your site in your sig

Aha! Well, that looks better I was wondering though, if I'd come through the site and not a direct link from here, how do I find the books for download? Looks liek I can only get to the web version...

And another thing, it's a bit odd to see the 'Home' link in the middle of list in the horisontal top menu bar - 'home' is usually the left-most item ('m guessing it's maybe not you who're in charge of this, but I htought it worth mentioning). It's a nice site btw. - hope it doesn't all sound like criticism
