It's that damn India support (and I'm not commenting on the business practice in general, just as it applies to Amazon) it's next to bloody impossible to get them to talk to you like a human being.

Slayda, the email address for your Kindle is located in your account on Amazon for your Kindle. There's a specific address listed there (you can change it, if you want) for your Kindle as well as a place to register email addresses you will be sending docs from. Only registered email addresses can send to the Kindle email address.

It's been great for me. I used to print out docs that I created, but now I send most of them to the Kindle (1). I can still kick back and get comfy to read, but I no longer have a pile of paper to recyle (or file) when I'm done.

Yeah I knew the answers, I just wanted to see what they'd say. I actually originally called to asked them some questions as well as whether you could use non-amazon bought books with the Whispersync on iphone, and they said that converted books aren't stored on the Amazon server and you can't put non-amazon books at all on the iphone(at least not unless you jailbreak, but then I don't know about the whispersync)

Kind of disappointed about that answer. See I have about 500 non-drm LRF formatted Sony books, and I really like the whole syncing pages read to between the Kindle and iPhone functionality, but if its not going to work with my non-amazon books then the main reason I would be switching from Sony to Kindle is not going to work.

If someone who owns a Kindle could test whether if you read to a certain page a non-kindle store book and you manually transferred the same book to the iphone app, if they would sync the pages, that would be really sweet.

I can tell you it won't work. DG tried it with two kindles and it only synced with Kindle store books.

I assume it only stores bookmarks and annotations for those too. I have never tried it though. I don't really use those features.

Well that just sucks. Is their anyway to "trick" a book into thinking its an amazon bought book? Like apply my own DRM to it? I mean you can strip it, could you apply it as well? Or is that too complex?

I don't think it is about DRM... I think it is about the ebook being in the Amazon Media library. It links your position to it in some what I assume.

I'm sure I did & maybe I should go back and reread some but I believe I'll just make my own conversions and use USB to get them to my Kindle.

Some of these tech support lines FLAW me. The fact that they give just blatantly wrong information is incredible.

And what's even crazier, is that I've called tech support 4 times in a row (For a dif product), and was told by each subsequent "specialist" that the previous information I got was "wrong", and they had the right way to do it. All 4 were of course wrong, and my problem never got solved by them.

Of course the Kindle is a storage device! It stores books doesn't it? Or is it a *magic* book reader*. (Anyway it will store any other file also - you just may not be able to read it.)

That woman is very atypical of the experience I've had talking to Kindle specialists. They were exceptionally friendly in every case.

Seriously atypical of my experience. Of COURSE the Kindle is a "storage device." You can "store" anything digital on it simply by moving it into the device via USB.

You may not be able to access the file on the Kindle, but you sure as hell can store it there.

Every company gets some idiots in their "help" departments. You just happened to talk with one of them.
