I've been meaning to, but haven't gotten around to it. I don't think in this case though it would have helped, since we know where it was lost and no one turned it in.

Since you are going to be waiting until October to order your device, I suggest you keep an eye out for what actually comes out and if you find something you want instead of a K2, get it. But if you still want a K2, get a K2. But remember, Sony has come out with a new device the past two Octobers running and then there is maybe a new EZ Reader and the Boox. So who know just what will be available by then.

Nope. Not a chance. When I'm at home reading, I'm plugged into the Kindle MP3 player. I have multiple SD cards containing different types of music. I'd be taking a step backward in flexibility if I upgraded.

I know this is the "Will you upgrade" thread, but I have to relate my own Kindle nearly lost story. I was in the airport and my cell phone had died, so I used a pay phone and had put my Kindle on top of it. After I finished my call I walked away from the phone without my Kindle. It was a good 15 to 20 minutes before I realized what I had done, but luckly when I rushed back to the phone it was still there -- I couldn't believe how lucky I was not to have lost it.

Not to mention txtr Reader and the rumors of new Hanlin/Astak devices ... at absolute minimum, wait til this week is over and see what's flooded the floors at CeBIT ...

No plans to upgrade from my Kindle 1. One of the main reasons I bought the Kindle 1 over other options was the ability to replace the battery.

Sure that happened. I totally believe it. Only days after the K2 comes out.

Actually an update- my mom went to the place and picked it up. We think when he called, they had no idea what he was talking about.

I like new and shiny things, but I still haven't been able to fully convince myself that the upgrade is actually worth it. I think if I could secure a buyer for my K1 first then I'd be a lot more willing to take the leap... but yeah, hard to decide. The smaller form factor would be nice though since my Kindle lives in my purse when I'm not actually reading on it.

I like new and while there isn't anything about the K2 that I would stop me from buying one for a first reader, there isn't any feature (or set of features) compelling enough for me to upgrade.

Admittedly I was tempted the day everyone got their K2s but reminded myself that even if I got a good price for my K1, I would have to repurchase my cover and extended warranty as well.

Now that the hype is dying down, I am not even tempted...I still love my K1 and every time I read, I realize I would miss the big convenient page turn keys.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves the big keys! I really don't have an issue with accidental turns and they're so convenient.

I'm tempted, too, but I know if they bring out a large-format reader, or there's another suitable one in the fall, I'll be getting that. So while I could almost justify upgrading my Kindle 1 after a year on a whim as long as I passed it on and didn't waste, I would just feel too extravagant upgrading and adding a large-format reader.

Yup, and Yup again!

Yes, I would order a K2 for myself, but my K1 is doing well and my curiousity has been slaked--I ordered a K2 for my husband and just received it yesterday! I love my K1, but now that I've played with the K2, I'm liking the changes. I really like the smaller page turners--I do 'trigger' my K1 easily just shifting my hands and am constantly paging back. I like the new menu/slide-y mouse thing and find it easier to highlight and make notes on the K2--and love the dictionary kicking in so immediately, too. Actually, the K2 I find is quicker and more responsive and more intuitive. My husband is not a techie by ANY means, and he is using it easily without the usual complaints I hear whenever he gets a new computer, phone, mp3 player, etc., etc. He is LOVING his K2! Also, my husband loves the voice option--he's an artist and likes to hear books while he's working. Audio books are really expensive, so the voice thing on the K2 is very welcome. Re: the SD card, this is not a concern to me. I do have a lot of books, but store them on my computer in files and shift them to the K1 as needed. My husband will do that as well. I WOULD love a file/folders organizational ability on both Ks ... I wonder why that hasn't happened yet? I was a bit disapointed that the charging connection on the K2 was different than the K1. I had invested in a iGo for all my toys, and now need to buy yet another tip
Overall--am very happy with my K1 AND excited to have a K2 around! By the time my K1 is ready to retire (hopefully not for a long while) I will probably order the K3, or K4, or K5?

That's great news. Most of the people where I live don't know what it is either. I try to tell them you download books and read them on this, and they still give me a blank look.

Back onto the topic - When the K2 was first announced there was a moment when the new shiny was calling my name, but honestly, there really isn't any reason to upgrade. I love my K1, it still works perfectly, and the K2 didn't do anything special that my K1 doesn't do.
