What software version are the people who say they don't have it, using? The way my two K2s refresh the display, I don't see how it's possible NOT to have the issue...

Then again, if there would be an option for the text to cover the entire screen it would also refresh fine. Using my ruler, I estimate that over 40% of the readable area is used for headers, margins, etcetera.

To the people who say they don't have ANY ghosting when coming out of sleep (in the top and bottom area of the screen), does that whole area refresh for you when you turn the page, then? I honestly cannot believe you don't have ghosting if that area doesn't refresh, as the ghosting is the nature of e-ink unless it can refresh from a completely blank page. |

I do get top/bottom ghosting with Free Range Chickens (which is currently free to buy on Amazon) and Plenty: One Man, One Woman, .. and when going from a book to the Home screen. I also had slight ghosting on my K1. |

I experienced the same ghosting problem on my K2. I had a couple of .jpg photos converted by Amazon and transferred them to my Kindle. When I viewed a photo, I could still see the text from the previous display. Thanks for the alt-g tip; I too wish it was automatic.

Are any of the books with the ghosting issues in Topaz format (.azw1 or .tpz, as opposed to .azw)?

I also opened two of the books on K1: The Canon without the ghosting issue and Free Range Chickens with it. The K1 behaves differently. On the K1, both books have the ghosting issue when wakened from sleep direct into the book but a 'next page' will refresh the bottom bar (and clear the ghosting) on both both books. On the K2, if the book has the bottom bar ghosting issue, a 'next page' does not clear it. You need the Alt-G to do that. I'm curious if the same book-specific ghosting is experienced by others. Or if it's something other than which book (random, when it was loaded, whether there are notes, whether it was synced, etc). |

Mine seems to do a full page refresh when returning from the screensaver. I can see the negative image of the text at the bottom for a split second before it loads the book.

You're right, it does do it on Free Range Chicken but its confined to the bottom bar and hardly noticeable.
It seems to do a refresh in that area. I can see the negative image, but it doesn't completely erase everything. Last edited by BenG; 02-27-2009 at 08:37 AM. |

OK, I finally was able to replicate this ghosting that I've heard so much about.
I believe that the reason why I didn't see it before is because I usually go to my home page before I put it to sleep. But for some reason I let it go to sleep while reading a book, and when I woke it I was just barely able to make out the ghost, if I held it up to a very bright light and really looked hard. Now, having seen it, I'm really wondering why on earth such a fuss is being made over this! it is really hard to see the ghost image, at least on my K2. I really have to go out of my way to see it. |

It's pretty obvious to me. I can pretty easily make out the "Slide the power button" text on the bottom, and the shaded top is just "ugly" since it's the ghosting of the screen saver top area. I'm sure this is quite subjective as to how annoying this is...

I have some ghosting but honestly I've seen it on every eInk device I've owned.

Never noticed that it did this. Just allowed my Kindle-2 to go into sleep mode for a minute or two. Turned it back on - there was no ghosting. I'll check again tomorrow morning after it has been in sleep mode for hours.
