We both are very curious people and the ability to look up subjects on Wikipedia and the dictionary is going to be great. And I already have a number of e-books on Amazon that I want to read the free samples on before considering buying. Geez, with 230,000 books, I can instantly download and read hundreds of samples just to wet my appetite!
Mine is scheduled for delivery on 25th, but haven't seen it "shipped" yet, on Amazon, just pending. And you are right, I can't remember the last time I anticipated a UPS delivery so much.
The free samples is such a GREAT concept. I want to read all sorts of things and hear what all types of people have to say about it. In my mind, even before using a kindle, I feel like it's already opening up a huge world for me.

I really liked the 505 too. Just that screen was so beautiful! I had the silver one with the tan brown leather cover. What a gorgeous combo.

Too bad the Cole Haan covers have those odd corner straps and not the clickity thingamabob side hook patented mechanism to hold the book in place. I think that dark brown straps against the white kindle will be distracting, so I went with the Amazon leather cover with the secure hooks. Otherwise I would have bought the soft-skin brown Cole Haan cover, yeah, it's expensive but I can imagine that folding back the beautiful leather cover must feel so good

Congrats on your new Kindle2 pixelbased!

I have a Sony 505 and love it--wouldn't trade it for anything. (At least anything out there right now!) But, I gotta admit I really wish it had a dictionary built in with an easy way to look up words. That's the only thing I miss about reading on my Palm PDA!

Looking forward to your review after you receive your K2.

I agree -- I think the free samples of books is the BEST part of my Kindle1 (K2 en route too). It's like being able to read the first few pages while standing in a book store. Most samples are, in fact, far longer than what I read in the book store.

Post some pics of your cover & how it works, when it gets here. I ordered the K2 but I'm holding off on a cover, till we get some reviews.

That said I've been using the 505 for about a year now, and adore it. Ironically it was the K1 that got me curious about eReaders and enticed me to buy it. The K2 looks to be a much improved system but still lacking the polish of the 505. Even still the functionality of Wispernet has finally gotten the best of me, after much self-debating, so I ordered a K2 to try out, though I won't commit to it until I've tried it for a week. At that point I should know which reader I'll keep.
You wouldn't care to take wagers, would you?

Don't forget to check out Oberon covers... they are simply beautiful!

They aren't available yet for the K2, Oberon has to wait to get their hands on one before they can finalize their design. But they are available for pre-order.

Please, let me know what you think..And all the other 505 owners.

I'm considering the big jump right now.

But, I love my 505. And my 700...sure they've got their quirks..and their broken parts...

But, I'm getting a little sick of paying 17 - 25 dollars for an ebook that amazon has for 7 - 10.

I'm a long time 505er (since 10/07) and have had the K2 a few hours. I love it. I don't know that it's really any better overall than the 505 for just plain reading, but the dictionary is nice and the wireless is neat. I put my own files on a password protected part of my webserver and can download them remotely if I'm not near a computer.

For me one of the big things was book price/selection. There are books that I've wanted and they're the only one that has them plus a lot of books are many dollars cheaper. I can still remove DRM (unless it's a Topaz book which I will avoid) and store my personal backup copy in case of a device switch.

That is a hotly debated topic and one on which I am nowhere near qualified to give an educated opinion. However, it is quite clear that it's a violation of the Terms of Service with Amazon.
