I'm glad Sony was able to do something for you, a friend had an online gaming account compromised and the company's response was along the lines that he as the original user wouldn't be able to show that he hadn't sold the account and was attempting to renege on the sale. So their solution was to totally and permanently disable the account so neither customer would have access to it.

Good luck getting it back. I think it's less likely someone would keep a reader over, say, an iPhone.

I lost my iPhone on a flight out of Miami and, when I called AT&T to shut it off, they told me iPhones NEVER get turned in. But, bookworms tend to be a relatively honest lot. Mind you, if I found it and it had a lot of mysteries on it, I don't know......

You all realize that many of the things lost on airplanes (ie. luggage) are bought and sold by an interesting store often featured on CNN?

I know this, because that is where I buy most of my really awesome stuff.

I hope you get it back - since I already have a 505 that someone else lost in their luggage. On that same note - I am very appreciative of people who lose their luggage. I have many many really nifty toys purchased at that store, as well as quite a bit of other things.

I'm hoping that it gets sent to Dallas sooner than the five days they usually wait. It happened to us once with a pair of keys and they sent them the next day.

Well, all I can say is that my wife is a saint. I still don't have my lost reader, but she gave me the funds from her "secret" hoard and I now have a shiny new BLUE PRS-505 in my hands. I've customized my logo to include my name, my number, a cool trinity symbol, and a "if found please contact:" message

If the other Reader ever turns up, I'll give it to my wife, though she's more of a pbook person.

Based on your experience, it sounds like it is imperative to write down the serial number of the reader and keep it somewhere safe, if that is our only recourse with sony against theft!

Just when you think you know them, they surprise you. Congratulations. I know that I would be lost if I had to travel without my Reader. You never know how much you depend on it until it goes missing. I;m keeping my fingers crossed that you get the older reader back.

jplumey--

So glad you have a new reader! What a nice thing for your wife to do!

I've taped one of my business cards with all my contact information on inside back of my reader case. I figure I want to make it as easy as possible for someone to contact me if they find it.

I do hope your other reader will turn up eventually.

Unclaimed Baggage has a stack of 505s from lost luggage. Interestingly enough, they also have a stack of Kindle 1s. And they deal in an uncountable number of iPods.
Question - if you left it on the plane, would it count as lost or stolen? I have seen both listed in this thread.

How much do they charge for an unclaimed 505?

Wish they had some way to order stuff online.

It's stunning that there are so many people wouldn't attempt to claim! Maybe they tried to claim them, but couldn't prove it was theirs?

I wonder what they're charging for those. I'd consider a Kindle 1 for $75 or less, if just to get the ebooks that aren't available anywhere else...
