I'm pretty sure that the e-ink displays aren't remotely capable of it, but a fold-able display would be nice. For a larger format application, unfold it to 8.5x11 and for normal ebooks, a 2-page bifold like holding a normal book.
The 2 page bifold would be worth it even if you didn't need an 8.5x11 page, just to be able to hold your ebook reader like a paperback. ED |

I am pretty sure the iRex DR1000 has a "no margins" mode where it zooms the documents so the margins are basically gone. I still think having a reader with an 8.5x11inch screen will be much to big. But, perhaps in 10 years we will have just the plastic screen like a piece of paper and we won't have any frame to worry about. BOb |

Personally I'd prefer to keep the width and length the same, but make it all screen. Make it a little deeper with either a slide keyboard or a touch screen keyboard. I really don't understand the dedicated keyboard since I just can't see doing that much text input with the device.

Just my 2c. I have a PRS-505, had a PRS-700 and just placed an order for Kindle 2.
I also have an iLiad Book Edition. The screen on the iLiad is considerably more like a book, and more enjoyable to read, IMO. The iLiad has other (sleep-related) minor issues, but I think its screen is the perfect size (the DR1000) is too large for casual reading, for me.) So, yeah, size does matter. I am not sure why more screens in the 8" range are not popping in the marketplace - it really seems like the perfect size. |

What's the most recent status of the Astak (or any onther) 9,7" eink screen ereader?
I think the Cybook's size is perfect to read novels and such. But I notice I avoid to read PDFs and my digital graphic novels in it. That's why a bigger screen entices me. I guess having both sizes matters. ![]() |

6" inch (Cybook) felt slightly small to me, which is why I got an iLiad Book ed. (8"). I DO prefer the 8" screen size, but I DON'T like the extra weight.
Bigger is better for student/work reading, especially since so much content come in PDFs and you can't properly resize/reformat it. For recreational reading, I think smaller and lighter is more comfortable and is really all you need. It's also more portable. |

I would hate to carry around a bigger device. I think the size is right.

For novels, the 800x600 screen size is perfect for me. |

One concern I have regarding the Kindle is screen-size to total footprint. Right now I'm mostly using my Palm T|X and that's almost all screen - the proportion is good even though the screen is too small.

I think the current devices are good from an overall size perspective, but I would love to see them increase the screen size while keeping the footprint about the same. I find the 8" iLiad to be a great screen size, but would like a smaller overall footprint than the iLiad. |
