Thanks DesiLinguist, I am enjoying my iLiad. I had an unused 1GB SD card at home, so I transferred a few books and a few PDFs to it last night. The Mobipocket format books display very clearly and really seem to suit the device best. The PDF books also turn out quite good but the print is somewhat smaller. I still have no trouble reading it though. I am zooming in a bit to read the PDFs, just to remove some border at the moment. I haven't had time yet to sit down and just read with it yet, so I may find that when I do, I might want to switch to landscape and continuous mode as well.
I was surprised that my iLiad Deluxe Leather cover arrived this morning. I thought that it was going to take longer since they had to order it in. It is not magnetic, it has a press stud on the front. The iLiad slides into the cover at the bottom. I was actually surprised that there was no way for the cover to be held in place at the top though. I hope that the leather remains firm to hold it in place.

I am going to order an Invisible Shield cover for the screen of the iLiad as well. I have the same brand for my iPhone and Palm TX and love it.

On second thoughts, I don't think that I will order the Invisible Shield for the iLiad, the shipping costs to Australia came out as $67.87, that will work out to be about $100 AUD, far too much for shipping.
Very disappointing.

Hmm, I hadn't thought about the invisible shield for the iLiad. I do have it for my iPhone but I didn't know it was available for the iLiad as well. I think I will order that Thanks for the suggestion.

I am wondering though, do other people use the invisible shield (or something like it) to protect their iLiad screens?

BTW, for PDF books formatted properly for the iLiad, I would suggest feedbooks.com. They have a good selection of books that look really good on the iLiad.

I would really like to get the Invisible Shield. I know how well it has protected my other devices. The shipping costs are unbelievable though. I cannot believe that it costs that much to ship it to Australia, the price is so unrealistic.
I really want it, but shipping costs of $67.87 for a $25 product is excessive. It's a catch-22 situation, I have spent so much on getting the iLiad that I want to protect it well, yet since I have spent so much I need to stop spending. lol

Jodi,

Have you noticed that there is an australian version of the invisible shield website that claims to ship for $2.00 within Australia? Look for the text that says 'Australian Customers click here' on the zagg.com home page or just use this url:

http://www.invisibleshield.com.au/

I am not sure if you already saw this.

DesiLinguist,
Thank you so much!

I didn't realise that they had an Australian site. I am sure that I have ordered from the USA site before, but I didn't recall the shipping costs being so high at the time.
I cannot believe that even the cost of the screen protector is cheaper on the Australian site. On the US one, it is $25 USD which is about $30 AUD, but on the Australian site the same protector is $21.95.

I think that we helped each other out with this one....I told you of it's existence and you told me of the Australian site. Excellent teamwork.

I am going to be very happy to have the iLiad screen protected.

I used the iLiad for reading last night.
I have set it up as a developer device and I ran a small program that gives access to the shell without modifying anything in the system. But, I am not yet confident enough to run anything else that might modify the device or cause me to reflash it. I want to read about the reflashing first. I am going away for the weekend though, so will leave it for another time. The thing I am most interested in at the moment if FBReader so as I can view CHM documents.

Jodi,

Yes, excellent teamwork all around

I also tried the terminal program. I have also successfully installed the full-screen version of ipdf. I was thinking of changing the Mobireader font (there's a package for that) but I have kind of gotten used to the current font and find it fairly good.

Enjoy your weekend!

I wouldn't worry about the invisible shield. I have never heard of anyone scratching their screen with the pen, etc. Well, except for one case where someone said they were using it at the beach and got sand on the pen tip, which caused a scratch. But not from just normal use.

iRex puts a protective coating on the screen already. The main thing you want to add is the impact protection that the cover gives. I wouldn't bother with any of the film protectors or invisible shields, etc.

I had already ordered the Invisible Shield for the iLiad. I use it on other devices and find it great. Also, one of the things I plan on doing with my iLiad is letting my kids (a 7yo and a 2yo) draw pictures. I would then be able to send the pictures to their grandparents. I didn't want to let them do this without a screen protector though.
Well, it was on backorder, but arrived today and I have applied it already. I got a couple of very small bubbles down the bottom. But, previous experience with the Invisible Shield on other products tells me to not fiddle with the bubbles too much. Trying to push them out too much when they cannot be pushed out just makes them worse. It is better to leave them alone and they disappear after a few days by themselves. The Invisible Shield does add a bit of reflection to the screen, but I am very happy with it. I find myself naturally wanting to move my finger down the screen as I read. I didn't do that before applying the Invisible Shield though, but did it immediately after, without fear of scratching my screen. I'm happy.

Travelling to Stuttgart (and Bayreuth) Germany...viewing?

Hi All,
I noticed some earlier posts by people who live in Germany. I live in Greece and there are no eReader devices in stores here. Since I will travel to Germany in May and have some free time in Stuttgart and Bayreuth - can anyone give me the names of German stores which have iRex or even some of the 6" devices on display/for sale?
Thank you!

Sorry - Just found the correct thread for this question...
