I keep hearing "download", but no mentions of any other way to get ebooks onto a BB.
Are there any? Will it run an exe file. Can you just get it to read an html file? pdf? |

I just use the BlackBerry Desktop application and put the books on my SD card. The mobipocket reader on the BlackBerry picks them up just fine. I haven't bought anything directly from the BlackBerry yet, as downloads on my cell plan cost something like 1.99/minute.
The BlackBerry has a browser, so that reads html, but I haven't tried actually reading an html file on mine. There's quite a few pdf for BlackBerry apps out there, but I haven't tried those either. |

I read ebooks on my Blackberry using Mobipocket Reader software for mobi ebooks and eReader for ereader type ebooks. I have a micro-SD card inserted into my blackberry and the ebooks are stored there.
Each of these softwares have a desktop equivalent that assists with transferring DRM ebooks to the blackberry's SD card. If the ebooks are non-DRM, you can copy them directly to the SD card via USB to the blackberry. PDF files cannot be read from the SD card directly unless you use software like Documents to Go or RepliGo Reader. However, if you email the PDFs to yourself, the blackberry has a PDF viewer that allows you to see the PDF somewhat. I haven't figured out a way to view HTML files/ebooks. Yes, the blackberry has a browser but I haven't figured out a way for it to view HTML files from the SD card directly. Reading mobi and ereader ebooks from the Blackberry have been very effective for me and has allowed me to take my time in deciding whether I want a dedicated ebook reader or not or wait for a future ebook reader that may better satisfy my needs. |

I just got my crackberry (lol, very apt name) two days ago and I've downloaded a library book and have started reading it. It took me a full day and a few swear words to get the mobipocket thing figured out (I'd read about ereader as well as wattpad, but I wanted library books and mobipocket and pdf are the formats my library offers. THe whole PID thing was confusing to me- I managed to get my computer authorized, but took me a while to get my pda authorized as well. I hope next time I try it, I'll really know how to do it.... I'm so psyched to be able to surrepticiously read on my new phone....

I still don't understand why it's such a hot idea to have restrictive readers like Mobi on a blackberry when it can read straight HTML files????
But hey, Storm owners... is there any provision on any of the readers to turn the BB sideways and have a nice wide "page" to read?? |

Also MobiReader generates HTML to MOBI on the fly. All you have to do is select the "File| Import HTML" and it is automatically converted to a MOBI format. Since MOBI really nothing more than HTML the HTML file looks great. Quote:
The MobiPocket has a unique feature that "Locks" the screen so it wont turn on your when you reading. This is great when you reading in bed or leaning back to read. =X= |

How would you read HTML files stored on the blackberry anyway? Is this even possible? I didn't think so.
Only out of sheer interest, how would you read HTML files stored on your blackberry? |

This is not easy to do. You will either need to email it to your email account or install a third party app that reads HTML. But reading HTML eBooks is never really desirable on a device with limited memory. The load time is huge since HTML files are completely loaded.
eBooks and PDFs tend to load their pages one at time. =X= |
