Oh Amazon, I am so disappointed in you. No international availablility. No folders.
On the last page of manual, it says:
Quote:
Power — AC power adapter and replaceable, rechargeable lithium polymer battery.

Are you a little bummed or what? I mean, the text to speech is cool, but no one asked for that. I can understand not expanding yet to other countries, but what about folders? That seemed like the biggest gripe. And now they get rid of key features from Kindle 1.

Does it have a faster processor than the Kindle1? I assume it does.

pilotbob-

page turns are 20% faster and there are 16 shades of gray so I'm assuming that K2 is using a new probably faster processor.

I am very disappointed in the removal of the SD slot, lack of folders in Content Manager and still only one stinking font!

Still didn't keep me from preordering one, I have 30 days to return it.

I am, to quote the younger generation, totally bummed.

I wanted Jeff Bezo's to be smarter than this. I wanted him to include at least, at the very least, Canada.

In the end, what did he do? Changed to rounded corners.

Limited what we could store. No replaceable battery. No folders.

The extra shades of grey? I have no problem reading now.

Text to speech? Its a reader, people! There are already audio books out there.

I guarantee you this. I am going to baby my Kindle even more from now own, because no way will I buy what they are offering now.

If I ever do have to replace it, I will go with something else. But by then, who knows wht will be available?

NOTE TO JEFF BEZOS...........COME TO MOBILEREAD. SPEND SOME TIME HERE, LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO USE YOUR DEVICE AND THE MANY OTHERS AVAILABLE.

This is just not that exciting. I figured amazon could do better than this.
That's a way a company keep cost down for a product, while nickeling and dime you on the side. Sony did it with their power adapter, the PRS-500 came with an AC adapter and the other 2, you have to buy them for $29.99. Of course Sony users found a way around this travesty, they buy generic PSP adapters for $9.99!

I'm not. I expected the K2 to be a slight evolutionary change, and that is what it is. For some of us, not even really an upgrade in some respects. I didn't plan to be wowed by, or want to buy, the K2...and I wasn't surprised by today's announcement.

I would be bummed if there were significant firmware features (folders/tags, user fonts) added to the Kindle2 that weren't offered to current owners.

my first post and it is probably a dumb question -- since the new kindle won't have the SD card -- can we set up a folder on our computer to have a back up of our books? I know that Amazon keeps the books on file for us but -- you know just in case. Plus I already filled up my 1st Kindle and am using the SD card

Sure. Connect via USB and copy over from the Kindle memory.

But, you don't really need the AC adapter. You can charge the 505 with the USB cable via your computer. With the Kindle, you do need the case that doesn't come with it.

Well, hopefully I will never have to find out.

But I would assume that either the top part or bottom part of the back can be removed for battery replacement. This will hopefully be performed by the consumer as he/she is reading the battery replacement instructions included with his/her new battery that was replaced under warranty.

I rarely plug my Kindle into my computer and I like not having to have my computer on to charge. The charger is by my bed. If the Kindle is at 1/2 charge or below when I finish reading at night, I plug it in. It's nice to have the option to charge by computer but if I had a Sony, I'd have the PSP charger, too.

I have the PSP charger and I haven't even opened it yet (got it in December). I'm always moving my books around though, so it's connected at least once a week. Got the AC charger for vacations and such.
