ok, today is the day I've received my dr1000s back, and guess what, now that 1.5 is working, I have the pen bug too
the device was on the desk, waiting for a couple of hours, and pen did not work. I've turned it on and off using the buttons, and it works now.
if this is the same issue with pthwaite, I'll have to send it back again? that's very frustrating. are there any other users out there having this problem?

Kind regards
Seref

That's not good. So far mine has behaved since I got it back but I haven't had to do extended periods of writing to prove it yet.

the bug did not appear again. however battery life is around 8 hours, with no usage at all. and this is still short compared to other users experience. (right?)
I love this device, but unless something serious does not come up, I'll have to live with what I have. Still, 12 hours would be great for me, is it too much to ask?

Kind regards

You mean 8 hours of battery life with the device turned off?
Yeah, that ain't right.

No, I mean the device is turned on, but doing nothing, going into sleep mode after 30 seconds. Under these conditions, the battery ran out after about 8 hours. I remember reading reports of 14-12 hours with little reading. Compared to them, 8 hours is really shorter. This device just got back from Irex after its mainboard was replaced.

Oh ok, then turn on the auto shut off feature in Settings.

Sorry, I should have described it better. I have intentionally set up sleep after 30 seconds. Automatic shut down is already off. I was expecting the device run more than 8 hours continuously with sleep functionality, but that is not the case.

Today's the first time I ran into the pen bug... Bugger indeed. I was able to get it back though by simply going to the Preferences and disabling / re-enabling it (No reboot required). So I think it might be something that can be fixed in firmware, rather than a more serious hardware issue.

probably, I ran into it only once, and it is probably software related since turning on and off fixes it. the problem is, it is quite hard to reproduce, and that makes it hard to fix.

There seems to be some conflicting information about the pen bug out there. An iRex developer has said that he's aware of it and that he's looking at a software fix. However, iRex tech support has said it was a hardware problem and needed a repair.

I'm not sure if there are multiple causes, depending on exactly how the "bug" shows itself. Some have said that disabling/re-enabling works, but others have said that it doesn't. Maybe that's the difference?

Well, I was told this was a hardware problem. iRex have repaired my DR1000s and guess what, it still locks up.

It does seem to be a bit better but any lock up is an issue.

I would therefore guess that there is a firmware element to this. I am awaiting more info from iRex support

I also saw the pen bug today. Nothing responded with the pen. Earlier in the day I was unable to get the links to work in a PDF file. Sounds like the pen was not responding. Funny thing I went to another PDF and the links worked for awhile. Then eventually nothing responded to the pen. A power cycle fixed it. Next time I will try turning off/on the pen.

Could this sort of behaviour be connected to the use of a dictionary.
Usually I don't see this behaviour, only when I used the dictionary firsthand.

In rare circumstances even the buttons die down, so there is no way but to reboot the DR1000S.

I doubt it. I don't have a dictionary installed, so I haven't been using one.

I guess there are probably are two bugs. one known to them, the hardware one, and the other is related to software. software bug is apperantly hard to produce in a controlled way, so it may take a while till this issue is clarified.
