There's an issue in the naming. In the plugins dialog, the plugin is called epubveri library and in the toolbar it's called Validate Library.

Can we please have one name and use epubveri library instead of Validate Library? Thanks.

One other issue. 9The configuration is only available from the plugins dialogue. Configuration should be available as one of the options from the plugin.

Our job is to verify the accuracy of the books, so the name reflects that function.

Naming is the hardest part; I gave a lot of thought to what to call it on the menu. I felt that a name focusing on the function—rather than a brand name—might be better.

Do you have any suggestions?

I found another issue. If you start a Validate, there's no way to stop it until it's done (at least on selected books). There should be a way to stop it if you need/want to providing it's not yet finished.

If you want to keep the name Validate Library, that's fine. But you need to have the same name in the plugins section. It needs one name, not too. That means the thread needs to be renamed.

Also, the preferences should to be one of the options so we don't have to go to plugins to set any of the options.

The calibre itself offers a stop-seconds function.
I will check for other features and get back to you.

It seems to stop from the calibre's Jobs list.

Personally, I like epubveri-library for the plugin name and Validate Library for the display name since that makes it clear what the plugin does. I know it can be difficult to remember two names. Perhaps a set of flashcards could be generated.

JSWolf, I promised to come back on these, and my previous reply about stopping was not clear. Taking them in turn.

Stopping a check. There is a way, and it works the same for selected books as for the whole library: the check runs as a calibre job, so click Jobs in the bottom-right corner of the main window, select the epubveri job and press Stop selected jobs. The books already checked are kept and the report still opens with what was found. The problem is that the plugin only tells you this when you start a check of more than 500 books, so on a selection you had no way of knowing. That is a fault in the plugin, and the next release will fix it: a Stop the running check entry in the plugin's own menu, so you do not have to know about the Jobs panel at all.

Settings from the plugin's menu. Agreed. The editor plugin already has its settings on the arrow beside its button, and the library plugin should work the same way. The next release adds Settings to the menu.

The name. The two names do different jobs, which is why they differ. The plugin's name, epubveri library, is what you see in Preferences / Plugins and in calibre's plugin index, among hundreds of other plugins, so it has to say which plugin it is. The toolbar label says what the button does, the way calibre's own buttons do — Add books, Edit metadata, Convert books — and the tooltip on it reads Validate this library with epubveri. So you will find epubveri library in the plugin list and Validate library on the toolbar, and they are the same plugin.

OK, somewhat off topic here, but I've been plugging away at my calibre library fixing errors where I can. However, there's a bunch of errors that aren't fixable via the Edit Book interface, and I have no idea (a) what they mean, and (b) what they should be, and (c) how to fix them.

Can anyone point me at a resource which explains these errors for someone of limited technical knowledge? The link in Edit Book seems to presuppose that the reader actually knows what the error is about and knows what they are doing.

I'm coming up with a lot of unfixable stylesheet errors, in particular the unknown property 'adobe-hyphenate'. The other major issues are inconsistent font names and missing generic fonts.

I also see a lot of link errors - something pointing to a location that does not exist in the file.

And this may sound like a bizarre request - can we have a toggle which shows the books with no epubveri errors?

I want to make sure there's no other errors in them.

Delete the lines in the CSS that have to do with stopping hyphenation. adobe-hyphenate is specific to ADE/RMSDK. It's not part of ePub. You don't need it.

What other things are you having trouble with?

If you are doing that, you may as well check every book in the editor.

And another thing - would it be possible to add a search for files with a specific name? Specifically, "calibre_bookmarks.txt".

A lot of my books have the calibre bookmarks file added when I open the book in the viewer to check the ISBN. I've switched that setting off so it shouldn't be a problem going forward, but there's a lot of books to check otherwise!

Unknown attribute errors within the stylesheet; do I delete them, rename them or replace them?

Missing generic fonts in the stylesheet.

Fonts with slightly differing names in the stylesheet. If you switch the font name to what the editor thinks it should be, and rerun the check, it now has the same error going the other way...

Missing locations when something points to them. Not sure what to do about those...

As I said, I really need a Dummies Guide to CSS!

Can we move the side discussion by maddz to a new thread? It would be great to have a specific thread that contains hints and tips on using the Editor. I'm sure I could learn some things from it, they are asking questions I've wondered about as well.

You can search for filenames in ePub using the Quality Check plugin.
