My edit in the previous post missed your last reply, I'm sorry. But the gist of it is that either Mac or Sigil has now remembered how I want things and a new file opens in what I call full-screen and so does a file selected later from Sigil's recent files list. Both of them full-screen and the edit plugins working as you expected. It would be nice if, in Mac, a right-click on the icon in the Dock produced a list of recent files in the bubble that opens. Like Scrivener and LibreOffice Writer do. But for the rest (my original problem with edit plugins), that seems solved for now. |

The Macbook has a smaller screen and for me, is not really up to sharing apps on a single screen. I'm getting a bit tired of the latest UbuntuStudio, which has gone all-in on Wayland, making it impossible to use several helper applications which opened my main applications at defined sizes in defined desktops. |

I figure the longer I avoid Wayland completely, the better off I'll be. It's amazing to me how quickly the Linux world has embraced such a bug-filled and problematic display server protocol.
It's getting better all the time, but it's been standard on most distros for several years now! And in my own recent testing, there's still problems with flickering, fractional scaling, and not remembering the preferred geometry of a program's various widgets. There's still vast improvements needed before I'll even consider making the move. And we'll all have to make the move eventually. That writing has been on that wall for a long time, now. They are somehow managing to kill X11 without even having a replacement that matches its feature-set. Heck, they had X11 bleeding from the mouth before Wayland was even remotely stable! I can't explain how something like that happens. Last edited by DiapDealer; Yesterday at 11:57 AM. |

As far as Apple and macOS, while I am not without so called complaint, perhaps being a public company and given their visibility, the modern world favors shareholder value, and each quarter matching or beating market expectations of earnings. Not doing such has consequences that companies perhaps value, regardless of what each of us think of such. Such is perhaps reality or the world as it is now. Maybe the current CEO and other staff focus on certain things, etc. Thus while I might wish some bugs are fixed or behaviors changed, such is as it is, and the values of others may not be the only concerns.
As far as full screen mode, I also rarely use it. Yet indeed it seems problematic or not without issues, thus perhaps the previous mention of the Scrivener developer seemingly maybe having disabled such, perhaps intercepting in someway to instead maximize window instead of going into full screen. As I don't use full screen, I can't tell but it seems Apple apps themselves behave in different ways. Maybe they intercept dialogs or do something such that sometimes they appear in the same space, other times they don't. Maybe there are workarounds or maybe disabling full screen is a better overall option. Maybe some apps behave differently in full screen such as showing a sheet or panel if possible, I don't know. I don't keep up with interface guidelines. I don't know if there is anything ideal yet working around current behavior, if useful might be an option. |

If you are interested in this as a new feature (Mac only) then please post in the just opened New Features thread here on Mobileread so that everyone can see and comment. I spent a few minutes looking at it and we keep recent files in Sigil's settings but it is maintained by each MainWindow and not actually updated in Settings until that MainWindow is closed. So at the Dock level, this list may not show anything that was just loaded into new MainWindow. |
