Similar named books in Calibre

You are correct, I clicked the + sign and it was imported into Calibre.
One thing it wouldn't let me do until I changed the title on it tho was add it to my Kobo.
I clicked on a dozen or so books including the duplicate, to sent to my Kobo and all but the duplicate one were sent. I tried it by itself and after a 5 minute wait ....nothing. Once I added a 1 to the title it loaded ok.
No biggie now I know what to do...thanks for the replies all.

That's strange. I have books with identical titles (but with different authors) on my Kobo.

As far as I know, calibre's import book check uses the title and only the title for it's duplicate check.

That's not correct. You If you send a book with the same title and author, as a book on the Kobo, it will overwrite it. How the Kobo handles that is up to your settings in calibre.

A book with the same title and different Author can be sent to your Kobo. Just because two books have the same title does not prevent noth books from being sent to your Kobo.

I tried it as a group of books and when the transfer was complete the "On Device" column was checked for all but the book in question. I figured somehow I had missed that particular book and tried to send it alone and after 4-5 minutes it still hadn't gone and when trying to cancel the transfer got a "Cannot cancel action while transfer is in process" or something like that.
I then added a number 1 to the end of the book title and it went in about 10 seconds or so.

When you sent this book to your Kobo, did you watch the jobs to see what's going on? Also run in debug mode to see what's going on.

Fix your Send To Device Template to break the tie
With the device connected Configure appears on the Send To Device Icon context menu.
I use this: (does not work for 2 versions of the exact same book. Add {ID} as Kovid suggests, to break the tie ) (this does NOT change the book MDE in Calibre )

MyBooks/{series}/{series_index:0>2s}-{title}-{authors}

(I also tick 'use sub folders', since my template includes a path)
That gets the book ONTO the device (which is the first issue). The next issue is getting it recognized for the book/series/Author listings.

For getting 2 versions ONTO the KOBO. (assumes the above has also been done)
Configure the driver: Collections, covers & Uploads (A Tab): remove the tick for 'Do not treat replacements as new books' (that stops the 'processing' from treating it as a replacement for the other same title book)
This is a PITA if you also update errors for a book and do want to replace. Take your pick 1)PITA 2)Multi Versions

Yup, first time (with the failure) can't remember the exact box that I opened up but there was a time column as well as a percentage plus a couple others. I ended up closing out calibre as clicking on it wouldn't allow me to close it. After adding a number 1 to the end of the book name I could load it onto my Kobo no problem.
Thanks for taking the time to do the write up the ducks but for the amount of times I have a problem, I'll just add something to the end of the name.

This is the template I use. It keeps everything in one directory. The problem with the other way is that if you use the Kobo to delete your eBooks, then you end up with empty subdirectories.

This is easy circumvented by first removing the erroneous book from the device and then sending the corrected book to update.

I myself did had problems with books having the same title, by the same author: the only difference was the language of the book. I "solved" it more or less by including the language in the book filename.
