That seems unlikely: some books are only available in AZW3 format.

Lasso selection has changed: the lasso 'loop' is transformed into a rectangle with the max/min coordinates of the selected items. The selected items appear in white with rest of the rectangle in greyscale. This probably makes it a little easier to see what you are about to clip for copy or deletion. (This is only on BW Scribe; Colorsoft lasso selection does not do this, it is probably harder to implement when colors are involved)

Brand new kindle 12th gen does not open books loaded with calibre. It just opens a white screen seen on the photo, with no option to navigate the book. The books worked a day before and they all work on my other kindle, so the format is not the issue.

The samples from other books in the store work normally.

The kindle is updated and has been restarted + firmware reset multiple times.

Does anyone have the same issue?

I checked and was on 5.19.4 However I tried downloading a mobi file and that worked. Converting from epub to mobi did not work however.

Quite weird, any idea why this happens / how to fix? At least I know mobi is safe now

Does copying the azw3 file from calibre to your desktop, and then transferring it to your kindle documents folder directly not via calibre make a difference?

Though this person says 5.19.4, but maybe it's an AB test.

Yes, it looked exactly like the screenshot. I never had this problem before on any kindle prior to 5.19.5, or on my current one but when I first noticed the problem I could see people reporting it way prior to 5.19.5 so I assumed it was some combination of model, software and account/server.

I may try that copy test you suggest but I'm not sure what it would prove, other than that maybe calibre does some formatting which breaks now? Honestly having set up my pc to convert to kfx I'd rather stick with just the one workflow, similar to before - albeit where I have to select the format to send, and also have to delete the temporary kfx so as to avoid wasting space.

Taken an ePub from the MR library and I've converted it to a dual-format mobi using an older version of Kindlegen. I then used KindleUnpack to split the KF8 and the Mobi. I've posted the KF8 and dual-firmat Mobi so anyone on 5.19.5 can test side loading these.

I'd like to know if either or both work on 5.19.5. This would be a good test.

I unzipped the zip so I had a mobi and an azw3. I copied them directly (usb, no calibre) and I also sent them both via calibre, which converted the mobi to an azw3. In all scenarios for both books there was the same behaviour - the books display fine, new style dictionary search/open dictionary works, no line spacing option (I guess that's kfx only).

Right now I'm struggling to find azw3 files which don't work. I'm trying ones which were broken before. I did update calibre just now; there's nothing in the release notes which suggest deliberate changes in this area.

Screen refresh doesn’t work for me with files other than KFX. I can open KF8 (AZW3) but I can’t refresh the screen with every page turn.

I've had it effectively lock up a couple of times, once when borrowing a KU title while reading the Sample, and trying out the Ask Notebook AI feature. Had to Restart in both cases.

Given all this, and the change for the worse in line spacing in 5.19.4, I'm leaving my PW6 Signature on 5.17.1.0.4 and in airplane mode, so I keep the old UI, line spacing, and avoid these sideloading problems.
