If you want to see What's New in calibre, it's under you nose. No need for plugins or popups. I suggest Kovid make the link blue.

That doesn't work. The thing is, if we have to use a browser to see what's new, we may as well download the new version of calibre from there. And thus, there is no use for the plug-in.
