In the case of books written with a co-author, the other author is openly credited. I don't think one can call that "ghost-writing", unless you're suggesting that he makes no contribution to the book?

Eg, see the Wiki article on him:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Patterson

The co-authors of all his books are explicitly listed in the bibliography at the bottom of the article.

I just read J.P.'s "Sail" and, yeah, the cowriter shows but it was still worth reading, IMO.

Three more thriller authors for your consideration: Christopher Reich, Thomas Perry, and John Case. They're always on my "must read" list.

I read Sail a little while ago and thought it was an OK read. I think you are right in that is was probably mostly the co-writer with a little input from James Patterson rather than the other way round as indicated by the cover.

Good ones!

Or Trevanian's "The Eiger Sanction". Robert Ludlum's "The Bourne Identity". Ian Fleming's "Casino Royale", "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and "You Only Live Twice". All of these have been made into movies and without exception, the book was better - even enjoyable as some of the movies are.

I think I've read everything Ludlum ever wrote and cared enough to send him very minor criticisms of some later novels. The Bourne books were so much better than the movies!

I was shocked when Lustbader continued the series but, as a fan since his Sunset Warrior, he writes action scenes with more finesse than Ludlum.

I also think King Solomon's Mines is one of the great timeless adventure books.

I see The Guns of Navarone and Where Eagles Dare available in Kindle. I wish more of them were available, he was a great writer. So was Helen McInnes.

Any of the first 6-7 Tom Clancy "Jack Ryan" books + Red Storm Rising which he wrote with Larry Bond, plus any of Larry Bonds first books like Red Phoenix and Vortex. I haven't kept up with either of them but I've had the impression Clancy's later stuff wasn't as 5 star. I also loved the first 4-5 of Dale Brown's books and Harold Coyle's Sword Point but those aren't really available in ebook (Coyle and Brown). David Poyer and Steven Coonts are though (at least Kindle) and they write some good thrillers.

And if you haven't read Jurassic Park or Jaws, those were much better books than movies even if they did make great movies.

Ken Follett has written some great thrillers like The Eye of the Needle, The Key to Rebecca, and Jackdaws.

Also Jack Higgins' The Eagle Has Landed is good.

I can highly recommend books by W.E.B. Griffin. I've been reading some of his
Presidential Agent series. I've read the first two books so far.

By Order of the President
The Hostage

I really like the characters. And the stories are fun as well.

I would highly recommend Lee Child's Jack Reacher series. I got hooked reading the cover of number 11 I think (wow, did that grab and pull you in!) and I just had to start with the first of the series. I just finished the second book last night and I can tell you, they do not disappoint!
