Firmware 5.19.2 Update (11th Gen and Newer)

Initial concerns were that 5.19.2 might carry over hardened security changes seen on KS3/KSC in 5.19.1, which could have broken hotfix preservation behavior and delayed future jailbreak progress.

Follow-up testing later found impacts were limited: hotfix still technically worked in testing, and the specific hardened security concern did not appear to be copied to other models.

Recommendation is still to avoid updating when possible, fill storage if not jailbroken, and verify OTA binaries are renamed correctly if already jailbroken.

January 2026 - Ladies and Gentlemen, we got em.

5.19.1 for the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft and Kindle Scribe 3rd Generation was exploited by scam.net, approximately one month after these models released.
Huge shoutouts go to:

@hhhhhhhhh for discovering one small part that ended up being the key to this exploit being possible
@kluyg for testing the code on their personal Kindle Scribe 3rd Generation, and being willing to help me test the updated version a week after my first attempt failed spectacularly.

Please do not bother any of the above people, or scam.net, for access to the exploit. You will not get it early.

Much work has to be done to turn this into a functional jailbreak, as many things have been changed by amazon so much existing code no longer works, but a jailbreak will probably be made from this at some point.

Amazon themselves only initially claimed "next year" and now "later this year" for UK and Germany. Any other timeline claims I've seen were from unreliable outlets.

For what it may be worth, I'm still waiting for Audible to support audiobooks on a Kindle in Canada. It's been six years since I first queried Audible Canada about support for Kindles. I've quoted 2 of the responses.

I would like to let you know that at this time, Kindle devices are not supported in Audible.ca though they are supported in Audible.com (US). Hence audiobooks can't be accessed on Kindle, Fire tablets in CA marketplace.

We are always looking to expand our compatible devices catalog but since an extensive technical testing is required to perfect the final platform it may take a bit longer than expected to release a supported platform but we really do appreciate your feedback in this regard.

One has to feel some pity for the American and other customers forced to accept software that has not undergone extensive technical testing to perfect the product.

Agree. Implication is that it will take time for the device to be available outside USA. And by the time it is available, we would be running behind their next device they announced
