Something wrong with quoting, so I’m replying with this standalone post.
To DNSB: True, I should leave pro things for pros to do. To JSWolf: Compatibility is truly a thing, I’m keep working on letting more people have a comfortable reading experience, and giving them most freedom in how they want the content to be rendered. Some formatters here like to cramp so much thing in ebooks, such as colorful background images, with different colors and font family for different characters, hard to render margin, the list goes on. When encounter such file, I will always clear all styling since they are barely readable. And the effort the formatter put in just goes in vain anyway. I always want to focus on the content, with only necessary styling such as indentation, italic, bold, quoting and some basic borders. It’s more of a aesthetic thing rather than showing off coding skill I think. I would test on my different devices and distribute to some test readers in my hobby group. And the result says less is more. Even some very basic fancy stuff might fail, and I have to find another way around to achieve the same thing. |

As for accessibility and professionals? I think of myself as more of an advanced amateur. Most of what I've learned was from the learn by doing school. For checking accessibility issues, you can either use the ACE plugin for Sigil or the official ACE app. Alternately, you can use the calibre Check Books plugin that runs ACE and epubcheck on selected books. The nice thing is that if you have a backup copy of your ebook and things go very wrong, you can revert. Sigil, for instance, uses checkpoints which have saved me more than once when I screwed up a regular expression search. |
