Does anybody remember those "interactive" books from years ago.
They would have a page saying:



They were thick books too.

We had a neighbor who work at a company in Santa Barbara whose company made a teaching machine 'Tutor Text' (1958) which used a film strip and mechanical 'Logic' to accomplish the multiple choice, with a diagnostic response for incorrect answers (and a return to the question for another try).
Their was a Textbook format for each frame. (turn to 43, go back to 12, Next)

If you're looking to build something like this, Twine is probably the best tool to start with. It’s designed for interactive fiction and can export to HTML, which you can then convert to EPUB 3 using something like Pandoc or Sigil. It handles the branching logic way better than trying to code hyperlinks manually in an editor!
