does anyone know if the Kindle 2 will fix the backlighting like the new Sony? I love my Sony505 but am absolutely disgusted with the Sony eReader store - it's one access and dwnload problem afer another. I just bought the new 505 cover with lighting and it makes an amazing difference. Bottom line, want to ditch Sony Store, but can't give up the new lighting effect. Will the new kindle 2 have lighting?

point of order, there is no such thing as "backlit" e-ink ; it's impossible, because e-ink screens are opaque. the lighted 505 cover is more like "frontlighting". i don't think we've heard anything about kindle integrating a lighting system but if it does, it would most likely (almost assuredly) be something like a lighted cover (like for the 505) or side-positioned leds like on the sony 700 (which can be turned off). so as long as you stay with e-ink you don't have to worry about eyestrain from backlighting.

I was most certainly not confused about backlighting and e-ink display. Reading post after post on the amazon discussions boards about people whining and moaning about 'why isn't there backlighting' I finally understood the reasons. The Might brite 2 flex light is working beautifully, when I need it. Unfortunately, lately, whenever I need it, I'm too tired to read, so its off to sleep without a book... ![]() |

It has a removable light that the cover is designed to hold. There have been reviews, some like it, but all agree that it isn't as bright as the might brite2. Last edited by desertgrandma; 01-24-2009 at 03:58 PM. |

And both of your conspiracy theories could be true, but a) they are more far-fetched than the scenario I (and others on these forums) have proposed and b) I haven't used either of those points in my posts to validate my opinion. My point was that I find Amazon's reluctance to release sales information unsettling and therefore wouldn't presume to put them at the top of any sales lists. If they're doing so well and moving so many units, then I don't believe they'd be so tight-lipped about their sales trends. |

Just being pragmatic this is not a good business decision. Suggesting this is akin to suggesting the other unproven and unsubstantiated drivel that I posted about (Kennedy/Moon shot.) BOb |
