I'd have liked a Forma, but I tend to be of the mindset that skips generations. And then I didn't want the buttons on the Sage, especially when my Aura One still seemed good enough. The Sage is certainly not going to last for nine years anyway. The battery life on mine has grown noticeably worse after 4 years of daily use, and it was poor to begin with. I'm lucky if it will last for a couple of years more, but I'm afraid not. I still have the Libra, of course; but as the Libra 2 is known for its unpredictable SD card failure, who knows if it will outlast the Sage.

The prospects are dim, if Kobo is not going to release anything black and white in the 7-8'' range.

If you can't get a new device because Kobo isn't making one, then replace the battery on your Sage and the SD card on your Libra 2 when the time comes. Neither of those are critical failures, thankfully.

Can't you just send it to iFixit?

I would really want an updated Kobo Sage with better battery, a Libra BW and a Kobo mini.

But for now, I'm using Onyx Boox alternatives (Go 7 and Palma). Unfortunately, they don't have a good option for a 8" reader yet. They did release one on the Chinese market, so I'm hoping for a similar international model in a couple of days. But still, no page turn buttons like on the Sage

iFixit has guides to do a repair and sometimes sells parts but they won't fix anything for you.

Phone / PC repair shop can swap a battery especially if you have the replacement.
