Thanks for reporting back! Man, I haven't thought about Slackware for a long time.

For Windows users: the process to publish Sigil/PageEdit 2.5.0 to Microsoft's Community WinGet repository has begun. Sigil 2.5.0 should publish to Chocolatey very soon. There is one false positive out of 69 malware checks there, and of course, it's the usual AI/heuristic ding from Bkav Pro.

Ha! It wasn't like that. I haven't used it since I installed it fifteen years ago. I used it successfully back then to convert some scanned/ocr'ed books to epubs, but it was so much work that I gave up on doing any more after that.
I wanted to update sigil a bit since then, but the amount of work required to add the necessary packages to slackware put me off. This new self-contained version makes updating a no-brainer, even if I don't have immediate plans to use sigil right away. |

It's probably not best practice but I created a symbolic link of Sigil to the Sigil-2.5.0-x86_64.AppImage so the desktop file can just point to Sigil. This way on updates I just need to change the link.

Thankyou for the AppImage, running fine on Debian 12/Bookworm.
Easy to integrate with AppImageLauncher. Maybe publish the AppImage at https://www.appimagehub.com or get listed at https://appimage.github.io/apps/ Footnotes - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDesktop.org - https://www.opendesktop.org/about - https://www.pling.com/faq-pling Last edited by shuvashish76; 05-25-2025 at 04:46 AM. |

Got this setup now and it all seems to be working. but I have a slight problem with plugins.
For example PunctuationSmarten. I launch the plugin, select the first file and it usually gets highlighted in blue and then I press Ctrl A to select all files. But when using the Appimage, nothing gets highlighted, so really hard to tell if the files have been selected or not. The plugins runs if I select each file individually, but I can't tell what files have been selected and what haven't. I'm running Ubuntu 24.04 and Mate desktop. Anyone any ideas how resolve this please? |

I really don't like debugging these older tkinter plugins. Even when they're my own!
![]() What version of Sigil were you using (before the AppImage) where this was working the way you expect it to? I ask because I don't think this has anything to do with the AppImage. I can't get Ctrl+a to do anything in the tk widget in the Arch packaged version of Sigil 2.5.0 either. I can see the files that are highlighted in the tk widget (in both the AppImage and the regular build) and I can highlight the first file, hold shift and click the last file to highlight them all, but Ctrl+a does nothing for me--regardless of if I'm using the AppImage or not. I DO notice that tkinter dialogs seem to be scaling differently for me from the AppImage to the regular build. Built then tkinter has always behaved squirrelly for me. |

Sigil 2.3.1, but running on Windows, sorry should have said that.
Shift and click worked, thank you. It would be nice to see the highlighted files, but not the end of the world. Ctrl A has always worked in Windows. Is there something better than PunctuationSmarten? Thanks for your help Last edited by dearleuk; 05-25-2025 at 06:56 AM. |

I don't think there's another Sigil plugin that will do punctuation smartening, so you're using the right plugin. I probably just need to upgrade the plugin to use a sane Qt-based GUI instead. |
