Nope. Just the Kobo Utilities icon, which is visible even when the Kobo is not connected.

There are two icons: "Device" and "Send to Device"

I selected "Configure this device"; under "File formats" I deselected kepub.

Under "Send to Device" I clicked "Send specific format to main memory and selected epub, but it still uploaded the book as kepub

From the Device icon, you click on Configure this device or even if your device is not connected, you can still open Kobo Utilities, click on Configure driver to open the KoboTouch driver configuration dialog. On the second tab ( Collections, covers & uploads ) and remove the checkmark from Use Kobo viewer for EPUB books. See attached image.

Do you have WiFi enabled? I don't and that may be your culprit. It 'updates' the book.

No WiFi. It is puzzling. We'll see if it happens with the new Calibre.

I suggest you reinstall Kobo Utilities. It's used for a number of useful things such as compressing the database on your Kobo and backing up the database in case something happens and it gets corrupted. There are many other things it does.

If you don't edit your eBooks, use Modify ePub to change the cover in your ePub. Then you'll never again have a generic cover as long as you previously downloaded a non-generic cover.

I start with a non-generic cover. I don't see the generic cover unless I import multiple ebooks while I'm reading a book, in which case something deletes the non-generic cover and replaces it with the generic. Not always, but often.

I do edit my ebooks in Calibre and start with "add cover". I use modify epub after editing.

That's weird. I've never seen this either, and I often import multiple books while reading something.

Edit Book updates the metadata (inc cover) whenever it is launched.
If Calibre has a Generic ...

You can turn this off in the EDITORS SETTINGS

I've always had a non-generic cover after using Edit Book. In any event, in my case importing multiple books can change the cover of a book that's on my Kobo, not a book being edited or uploaded.

Perhaps a moderator can move this whole cover discussion to a new thread so as not to distract from the main purpose of the thread.

Not sure if this is a bug, or whether I need to check/uncheck something:

When sending books to Kobo now (v8.0.1) they are added to the root directory of the Kobo. I looked in "Sending books to devices" and noticed that the save template had defaulted to simply {title}.

I changed it to
{author_sort}/{title} - {authors}
but Calibre is still dropping books to the Kobo root. I also checked the save template under "file formats" on the the "Device" icon when the Kobo is connected; it is also set to
{author_sort}/{title} - {authors}

So for now I'm manually creating an author folder on the device and moving the book into it.
