Switch to sideload mode. There's no reason to have your Kobo tied to your account if you never want to sync books directly from the store.

Open the Kobo eReader.conf file and add:

SideloadedMode=true
under the ApplicationPreferences section.

Forget Sideloadmode.

Just stop syncing. You don't need to do so. Turn off WiFi.

Go to the home screen. Then tap More at the bottom. Settings > WiFi connection and make sure WiFi is not checked. Also in Settings go to Syncing and updated and unckeck Automatic sync.

This way WiFi and Syncing will both be off.

Just ARCHIVE the books on the Kobo website. You can restore them if needed at a later date

After you download the books to your computer, move the books in your Kobo account from Books to Archives. If need be, you can later move them back but moving the books to Archives will remove them from your Kobo reader.

Not syncing and having WiFi off will cause your battery to last long between charges.

The only time I ever synced was when my Aura H2O were being set up. I've never synced my Libra 2.

I use Wifi quite often to search through Wikipedia so I think that I will go with the method DNSB said and just archive the books.

I simply register my kobo e-readers with an email address I don’t buy books with.

Unfortunately, because of the way chosen to change the name, it still shows as DeACSM in calibre's list of plugins. Until that changes, it's DeACSM to me, as that's what people need to know to install it.

New windows 11 laptop needing adobe digital editions
I also am looking to download new kobo books into calibre. I have been using this method for ages so I guess I need ADE for windows 11. I was using ADE 2.0 on my previous win 10, so my question is can I still choose any version of ADE or is there only one available? Will it still work the same way to download to calibre? I have Obok dedrm already on my calibre and intend to buy from kobo and remove the drm as I usually do. Which ADE should I download?

You should look at the ACSM Input plugin for calibre. It will fulfil the .acsm file from the Adobe Servers for you, and the book will go directly into your calibre library, with DRM removed if you also have the DeDRM plugin.

It shows up as DeACSM in the list of calibre plugins in calibre for historical reasons.
