Can't get this running on my KT5 because the KT5 uses a slightly older version of glibc (2.20). Any chance you could compile it with a static libc? Would much appreciate!

Hmmm... I think static linking against libc would be a very bad idea - as literally every other library depends on this, it would cause a lot of mess and incompatibility.
I think the problem is elsewhere, as my kindle also has libc 2.20 (and runs Gargoyle just fine). I imagine that you have a cross-compile toolchain already installed. You might try to build my repo: https://github.com/kbarni/garglk/ (and replace the files in the bin/ folder of the KUAL package from your build) |

Two finger tap on the top right corner, and the keyboard reappears!

Hi!
I have a Kindle PW5 jailbroken on 5.17 and I copied gargoyle to it, but it doesn't show up in KUAL. |

You have to copy it in the extensions folder on the Kindle...
(check that you have /extensions/gargoyle/menu.json file) |

Best directory to put games?
Thank you for doing this! I just used Winter to JB my Kindle PW4 running 5.17. All I really wanted was to be able to use pbchess and run interactive fiction like I did in the old days.... but pbchess apparently does not launch (needs to be recompiled perhaps?). But your Gargoyle build works great! Esp once I learned to do the two-finger tap to get the keyboard
![]() Quick question: Where should I put games? in the extension/gargoyle/games folder, or looking at the startup shell script, it looks like the /IF folder ? Currently I have game files in the gargoyle/games folder, but each time I launch Gargoyle I have to navigate to that folder. Should I modify the startup shell script to have the games (or /IF) folder be the currently directory? Thanks for any suggestions. |

@tannenba : both solutions will work. I prefer to keep my games in /IF so I can organize my stuff in the root (/books for KOReader books, /documents for Kindle books, /IF for game data).
You can keep your games in gargoyle/games (or any other) folder and edit the gargoyle.sh file accordingly. |

Gargoyle update!
Mostly cosmetic changes and small bugfixes.
* If you don't want the splash screen, put a # at the beginning of line 4 (./fbink...) in the gargoyle.sh file. Last edited by kbarni; 03-14-2025 at 03:55 PM. |

I like the addition of the splash screen and booklet. Interestingly, the booklet takes a few seconds to load and shows the image, but when launching from KUAL it is very fast and just flashes on screen before the file chooser replaces it.

I was able to run it on PW12, thank you for the port!
Is there any shortcut to exit to KUAL or close the game and go back to the screen selection? Or do I have to reboot the device every time to exit? I would appreciate font selection and font size settings in the future. Closing of the keyboard would be also a nice add on. Last edited by Piecho; 04-11-2025 at 07:52 PM. |

Type quit, then confirm 'y' and then press enter twice to exit.
There is a config file that you can edit to select font and size, etc. |

This is amazing! (I know I posted something but it cleared once again on this site!). Thanks for the contribution to the community, much appreciated. Does anyone have personal recommendations for someone getting into this, of what's best to play/work up to?
