I cannot download ebooks from Amazon

Thanks for your feedback. I contacted Amazon customer service and they told me there is a restriction of 20 downloads per month. Not sure if this is something new because it never happend this to me.

Thanks for the info.

That might be true, but it's certainly not relevant in my case. I've only downloaded nine books in the last month. (I've just counted).

Good to know, I definitely downloaded more than 20 this month. If this is not fixed next year for me I will get my ebooks from any other place but for my children I will continue getting them in Amazon because they go straight away to the devices.

A thought...

The spinning circle is on the dialog box where we select the device to which we want to transfer the e-book. I only have one E-ink device registered to my account. Is it possible that there's an error when the user only has a single device? And that the folk who are able to download books are those who have more than one?

I had 4 devices and it was the same. I just removed my 2 broken and missing devices

OK, fair enough. It was a nice idea while it lasted.

You had more luck with Amazon Customer Service than I am. I'm currently using their live chat, and seem to have drawn a complete idiot. He's not even addressing the issue.

It is the second time I contact them...

Google customer service is more efficient. I contacted them a few months ago so they could reset my books to reimport them in Calibre and they did it straight away.

This is new information to me. If they limit KU books I guess this download limit isn't too surprising. I don't buy many books so I'll always fall under the 20 but good to know. Thanks jospalau

I'm always dubious of anything a Customer Service agent says, their primary motivation seems to be to end the encounter, and they will tell you anything in order to do that. If Amazon is imposing a limit, then I would expect them to handle it in a more graceful way than by not displaying the list of download targets.

I've now finished my chat. It was a pretty frustrating experience (which, of course, I should have expected). After a lot of false starts and going round in circles, I got an assurance that "I've checked this with my lead and since the issue still persisting, what we can do here is we'll escalate this one to our Kindle Internal Team so they are able to review and make an immediate action for the issue you have." and was also told "And for the time frame, we don't have an option to check since we're just escalated this earlier to our Kindle Internal team. However, you can try to check it from time to time."

None of this really gets us anywhere.

@jospalau What browser are you using? Maybe try a different browser. Also remove all Amazon cookies from your current browser and try again. It could be Amazon is tracking your downloads via cookies.

I use Chrome in Gentoo, but I tried with Android and Windows and using different connections.

I can get the books from Kindle app on Windows but I want the ones I download from their web page since the ones from Kindle app seems to be modified by Calibre after adding them (they contain many Calibre css classes. Although I have downloaded a few azw3 with calibre classes too).

I don't think this has to do with KU because you don't get the "download and transfer" option for KU books.

I download a lot of free ebooks from amazon by way of ereaderiq.com and in Calibre I have 76 books that I downloaded in December. I downloaded 25 of them just now. I'm in California.

What geoffwood said sounds likely to me.

Confirmed that I'm getting an endless spinner on Amazon US, with multiple Kindle devices registered, and certainly inside of any download limits, as I generally use D&T only very occasionally.
