I would like this solution to be the answer, but AFAIK, I disabled OneDrive when I reformatted my PC in Sept. I don't think Google Drive (which is what I use) is as passively aggressive as OD?

OneDrive is (and always has been) uninstalled. The only cloud-syncing programme is Google Drive, which is not set up to sync my Calibre files. (Sorry - I would like something simple like that to be the cause.)

Just because you disabled one drive a while ago, do NOT trust M$ to not have 'fixed' that 'error'.

I hate it when an update FORCES a change into my systems. If I wanted AI help, I would have installed it. Nope, they snuck it in.
FWIW I put my Libraries on another Partition, just to keep little remote hands away.

I'm not actually sure if you can uninstall OneDrive from either Windows 10 or 11.

I think we will never know what happened. The symptoms match known causes, but you say none of those causes are possible.

What can be said with a great deal of certainty is that at some point some authors and/or titles were renamed, perhaps only a change in case. That caused calibre to attempt to rename the author/title folders, which apparently failed leaving dregs behind. These failures are always caused by some other software poking its nose into the middle of the process. The question is "what software"?

I failed iconography, so its L for Link, N for Note. They are white on red because that works in dark or light. I looked for free "Circle L" and "Circle M" pngs.
