I wouldn't buy an eink reader without frontlight, but that said, I read on my Kobo Mini in outdoor light only, and it's fine. Lamplight/indoor light doesn't do the trick.

Maybe outside, yes. Indoors, no. But I only use my ereaders indoors.

I would have bought a hypothetical Elipsa if:

- it was available without the stylus and without the note taking
- if the note taking actually worked well

But it will probably be released on the same day as the aforementioned 600 DPI Sage that weights less 200g and has 6 weeks of battery life

I'd settle for a Kobo Sage with a bigger battery, without meaningfully increasing the weight. That's it. Really. I'm perfectly happy with the screen resolution, the device speed, etc. Just give me a device that lasts longer without becoming too heavy to hold for long periods of time.

Then I can give my old Sage to a family member who has been "meaning to move away from Amazon" for awhile and buy the new one guilt-free.

You can get a Mobius Carta 1300 screen. Though the development kit is quite a bit overpriced, you need to be a commercial entity to order one and hope that the kit you want does not show as out of stock.

If the speed and contrast are comparable to at least Carta 1200, then I'd go for it.

They may be shorter life. Even original Carta is pretty good.
