I'm curious, does it still take 30 minutes to recognize it or was that some sort of 1 off on the initial connection?

Solved - for ubuntu 22.04

My solution - although not ideal...

Install dconf-editor
sudo apt install dconf-editor

Then run it.
Navigate to /org / gnome / desktop / media-handling

And disable automount

It is still broken, even with the very latest Calibre update (which I just installed).

Hej,
I was setting up the new Kindle today and I got to the same problem. But reading this here helped me. So far I used 2017 Kindle and that worked with no problem.
I am on Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon and using Calibre 7.22. Old kindle I would plug in and use. The new one poped some 'unable to connect' errors after pluging it in. But it was mounted and visible on desktop and not visible in Calibre. To be able to access it from Calibre I just needed to unmount it in system. Then it would appear in Calibre and it works like the old one.Once I am done I can disconnect from Calibre or just click on disconnect on the Kindle.

Hope this will help someone
