Yes, actually I do need glasses. I'm fairly nearsighted, and that means, when I hold something into my field of focus, I get a *very* up close view of it. And in the case of the Kobo screens, I've already posted some very zoomed in images demonstrating this on these devices. You keep claiming it's physically impossible, but the proof is right there for you.

If KOReader could integrate with my Liba Color I would use it. But because it doesn't I use my PocketBook Era.

The latest KOReader 2024.07 "Outside" works with Kobo Colour.

Oh I know it works, but it's not "integrated". On my Era I can open the library on the homepage and search for a book and then when I tap it, it opens in KOReader. That way I can use the nice library of the Era and still get all the benefits of KOReader.

I have quite a number of Kindles, Kobos, and Fire tablets, so I certainly didn't need another one. But, as I'm sure many people on here can understand, I just had to get a colour Kobo! I debated between the Clara and the Libra, and ended up getting the Clara, mainly due to the lower price ($179 Cdn). I had pretty low expectations for the colour screen after reading some of the reviews and comments, and given the relatively low price. I received my Clara yesterday, and I must say, I was blown away by how good it is! I think the colour display looks fantastic, and black and white text looks really good as well. I had no trouble reading it outside. Being able to see the book covers and highlights in colour is really a game changer; the difference is night and day. The 4 highlight colours are really quite pleasing, and thankfully don't include the ubiquitous yellow.

I am glad I got the Clara over the Libra. I love the smaller size, and the minimalist design. I didn't like the texture on the back and lower part of the front at first, but now I really like it.
Overall, I love my new Clara colour. Great job, Kobo!

I haven't used my Libra H2O since I got my Libra Colour. I'm quite happy with it. Highlighting in different colors is a plus I didn't know I needed. Coloured images are very nice.

I can't see myself going back to a plain BW device.

I love mine. No one else seems to have commented on this, but I find my colour nicer to hold than my Libra 2. It seems to fit my hand better and is lighter and more comfortable. I am sure this is very personal though.

It is faster than my Libra 2.

The screen has a darker contrast between text and background, but I live in flipping England, so I rarely read outside. During our ten minutes of summer this year when I did take it outside (I did for literally ten minutes on Friday) it didn't bother me.

The colour covers are a nice feature. I never looked at covers before, but now I actually like seeing them on the sleep screen.

Is the colour slipperier than the Libra 2? The Clara is noticeably slipperier than the Libra 2, primarily due to differences in the back.

Yes, the Libra 2 had some surfaces that were ruberized, (not sure if that is the correct term exactly, but the best I can think of.). The Libra Colour is all hard plastic. It has a fine texture, so it's still grippy, but not soft and sticky like the Libra 2 or Paperwhites.

The back of my Libra 2 has a lot of small dots, close together, in a pattern of diagonal lines.

The back of my Clara has somewhat bigger and a bit more spread out, possibly shallower, dots in a more random pattern.

Is the back of the LC closer to the Clara design?

Yes, the new Kobo devices (Clara BW, Clara Colour and Libra Colour) all have the same back plate design.

Be glad that it doesn't have a rubberized surface.
At some point this surface becomes sticky because the plasticizer evaporates.
Then the only solution is to replace it or remove this adhesive coating.
The rubberized surface should look high quality but underneath it is cheap plastic.

I'm not aware of KOReader being able to replace the default reader for any device at all, not just color Kobos. All I've ever seen is that it is a fully independent application.

The resolution issue means that when I want to read a book with illustrations (generally non-fiction), I buy it in print.

My advice is simple: don't buy a colour e-reader yet. A *lot* of development is needed before they become worthwhile. (And the same applies to those from other manufacturers, e.g. Onyx Boox. They all use the same screens.)

Whilst responses to the OP weren't unanimous, this seems to have been pretty much the majority view.
I can see our opinions are completely opposite. Yet I don’t have a problem with the resolution. I honestly don’t. I find the color a nice touch and a worthy advancement, but it would be wasted on somebody who only needs B&W, such as yourself.

I have a Kobo Mini and its lack of backlight drives me nuts. I only use it on hikes and longboard outings when sunlight is strongest.

As for the speckles, it is true that the LC has a grainy texture if you look for it, but I sincerely promise you that when I’m reading, I don’t notice it.
