liveusb-creator (or unetbootin, a different program) will allow you to copy your iso to a USB stick so you can boot from it. Unfortunately, I don't know how difficult it will be to get liveusb-creator working in Linpus. Alternately, the software is also available for Windows and if you could find a Windows computer where you could copy the iso and install the liveusb-creator, you can make the bootable usb drive that way.
(Press F12 when first starting your computer to select the USB stick instead of the hard drive once you're ready to boot from your USB stick.) Sorry, I can't be of more help; you could try a Fedora or Aspire forum for more assistance. |

Cheers kougei, it worked exactly as you said. Works a charm...
I have only one slight musing, though I'm embarrassed to say anything after all the work you done, in that when I open any internal application e.g Convert tool, the opened window extends below the screen and I can't get it to come up. This sounds daft, but all the internal windows that open are that way and the execute buttons, I'm presuming, are at the bottom of the window so I can't get to them other than Tab'in down and guessing. Now I've tried messing round with screen setup, window parameters, screen boarders, hiding the tool bar at the bottom of the screen, shrinking the window down and trying with the pointer to pull it up and none of it works. The window won't pull up and changing the settings still opens the window with a section below the screen. Through playing with the Tab key going below the screen I will be ok, but just wondered what it could be? The programs not originally wrote for Linux Linpus and the Acer's screen resolution? Could there be any fix? Anyway thanks for the help and getting me Calibre. Cheers, Durk's... |

I'm glad it works, but I'm afraid I have the exact same problem with Calibre, even in Windows.
I think this is only something the Calibre developers can fix, in making sure the application interface is compliant with the 1024 x 600 resolution found on all the popular Netbooks. I don't know if this has been reported before, I think you can log it as an issue, with the Wiki page on the Calibre website. I haven't logged it myself, because I'm waiting until next payday, as Xmas has left me bit low on cash, to make a donation to the fund, and I feel cheeky asking for things to be fixed, before having made a donation. |

Unfortunately doesn't seem to work in Windows, it's more of a problem in the 'Function Pages' e.g. Edit Metadata, and 'Convert E-Books', where the popup screen is too large for the desktop and disappears of, with the buttons at the bottom inaccessible. Luckily, you can normally press 'RETURN' after clicking in an empty field, which ats the same as pressing what is presumably the OK or PROCEED button.

Also, there is a bug in the current version where size changes don't save unless you quit from the tray (happened in Mac, may be in Windows too). BOb |

I have just installed and used Calibre on my Aspire One with no problems at all. It took just a few minutes. I'm using Linpus as came installed, although I am using the XFCE desktop.
I entered the following line in a terminal window: Quote:
I chose to place calibre in the directory /home/jb/calibre I made this directory beforehand. The response was thus: Quote:

Calibre went on to work fine and I've got a book on there as I type, put on from the Aspire One I'm typing on. Took maybe four minutes, excluding download time. |
