Calibre 7.0 Icon Missing - Page 2

I was wondering why my pinned start menu tile disappeared. I thought user error.

Another "me too", running Windows 11.

A repair got the start menu icons back.

One observation was that the icons didn't disappear immediately on migrating from 6.x to 7.0, but on some subsequent boot-up. Strange.

I'll join the club. Running Win 11 23H2. Sometime after upgrading to calibre 7 shortcut disappeared from the start menu and taskbar (I always delete the desktop shortcut).

Don't know when, only noticed when I needed to use calibre today. Annoying and puzzling but easily fixable - put it back in my start menu manually then readded to my taskbar.

Me too with 7.4 on Windows 10. Uninstalled it and re-installed and the icon didn't re-appear. I'm going to try the Advanced install and looks for the create icon thing next. EDIT: The Advanced Install worked. Odd.

I always install via Advanced, to see if Kovid has added any extra options, or if Windows has forgotten a prior setting.

That would explain why the issue only happens once in a while for me. I usually go through Advanced install, but occasionally get lazy and just do a regular one.

I don't recall Windows losing any of my preferences, the only one that's not the default is the one for desktop shortcut.

I wish the Windows Installer would retain my preference to not run calibre at the end of the install. After the install I move the .MSI out of Downloads, and then do any other installs I have in Downloads.

Running it in non-advanced mode certainly doesnt cause the icon to go missing.

Since my "icon has gone missing" issue was different from the OPs, I'll add specifics for my case:

I had been on Calibre 6.29 with Windows 10 Pro. I was experimenting with Chris Titus' Windows Utility and accidentally updated Calibre from within that. Since I didn't want to do that, I uninstalled Calibre, went to the official download page, got the official 7.4.0 version and installed that. For some unknown reason, I didn't do my normal Advanced install. Just a non-Advanced install.
The Calibre shortcut on the Desktop and in the Start menu were fine. I was just missing the Taskbar menu (as expected with a fresh install). I added it from Start menu option, but it was nothing but a "blank page" looking icon. It worked, but it just wasn't linking to the actual Calibre icon.
I uninstalled again and did my normal Advanced install. Everything was set to be installed, so I accepted everything. Again, the Desktop and Start shortcuts were fine, but the Taskbar icon was missing. This time, when I added the Taskbar shortcut from the Start menu, the correct Calibre icon was present.

I just right click the Calibre (or other) Taskbar Icon: Pin to taskbar (You unpin the same place)
