are you by any chance using remote desktop or similar screen sharing software? Qt has been known to have issues with that.

			Tried repair too. No change.

I must be a 1-of-1 with my issue. I've installed and reinstalled about 30 times. Different versions. Tried 7.0. Always kept Calibre up to date for years on the same laptop. Never had any issues until a few weeks ago. Updated the graphics driver to the latest 2023 version. Added the QT Env Variable. Only thing that works is reverting back to 32-bit version 5.44. Just to show you one aspect of the behavior. The below screenshot shows that when I hover over the taskbar app, it appears as a white window, but if I click on it nothing happens. So it's there, but won't bring up the window. |

Ran System File Checker. Interestingly enough it did find corrupt files and fixed them, but no change to the Calibre behavior.

I appreciate all the suggestions, by the way. Maybe I'll do a reformat and fresh Windows install at some point down the line to exhaust all options, but for now I suppose I'll have to stick with 5.44. |

Another random idea would be to try the Advanced button on the installer, and this time install Calibre to a different disk location other than C:\Program Files\Calibre2. Maybe C:\Program Files\Calibre7 ?

Which triggered another thought: With calibre closed, move the configuration folder to somewhere safe, then when you restart calibre it should fire up the welcome wizard, if that causes calibre to start with its GUI and default library we'll know where the problem lies - if not close calibre and reinstate the config folder to its normal location. Moving the config file did indeed open the welcome wizard and start the GUI with the default library! That feels like progress. So what does that mean?

In that case, here's what I would try:

	- reinstate your original config folder - rename the file gui.json to something like gui.bak - open calibre and let it recreate that file (hopefully it will reset the GUI state and solve the issue, I tested this and it did reset all toolbar buttons, windows geometry states etc.) |

Means the problem is in one of the files in the config folder.

My initial guess is gui.json. With calibre closed, copy the saved config folder back to where it belongs and rename gui.json to something like zave-gui.json, then restart calibre - calibre will create a fresh gui.json. If it works you can use the zave-gui.json to help reinstate lost settings. I wouldn't copy anything from it, just use it as an information source to reinstate settings manually. If it doesn't ![]() ![]() ![]() BR You owe me ten minutes of ODI World Cup final viewing
