Or the "Home Page" is now My Books, which some prefer.
Also Activity replaces the store portal thingy.

Personally I never liked the current home page since/when it replaced the user configured "tiles".

thank you for your help

Yes, no jailbreak needed. Same procedure as a update copied via USB.

They are here:
https://pgaskin.net/KoboStuff/kobofirmware.html
Scroll to bottom. Links go to Kobo server(s).

Issues
Don't install an older version than the hardware revision of the model was released with. There seem to be two versions of Sage with exact same name but HW revision.

You might also need to rebuild the database.

Some older versions have particular bugs or lack certain features such as PDF crop and later saving crop settings per PDF.

Sage, Elipsa & Elipsa 2 have the notebooks and advanced notebooks as practically a different system, so on those models I'm not sure how well it works going back.

Hi, I can't download an old version. The download starts fine, but quickly drops to zero.

Maybe try a different browser, also Kobo moved some from an http: url to an https: url. I remember reading something about it on another thread.

Which model ereader, which version and why do you want it?

I have various versions for Touch (version C), Aura H2O (original), Nia, Libra, Libra 2, Sage and Elipsa. Some of these will work on other similar Kobo models.

Bonjour,

Hello,
My kobo model is an Elipsa 2e. I want to change version, because when I load books from Calibre, I have all the trouble in the world to load the corresponding collection at the same time. Either I have to reconnect my kobo, or I have to switch it off and on again to see the book and its collection.
With my Libra 2 it worked perfectly. So I want to see if it works with a previous firmware.

If you are copying the collections from calibre to your Elipsa 2E, you need to send the books on the first connection. Once you safely eject your Kobo, the books are imported to the database and then on the second connection, the collection information is added to the database entries created in the first step. This is the normal and expected behaviour. NickelSeries would allow you to skip the first step for series but collections will still require the second connection.

The only books that would not need that second step are books purchased from Kobo and synced to your Elipsa 2E.

Thank you,
but with my previous Kobo, a Libra 2, whatever book I downloaded, the collection appeared as soon as the book was loaded. So Elipsa is an exception?
I admit I'm a bit confused. It's my first Kobo and I have to reconnect a second time to retrieve the collections.

So, I am trying to set up the Kobo without syncing it (using a Linux laptop, so I also don't have Kobo Desktop). The first step seems to work fine, though taken from a random site:

In KoboReader.sqlite, INSERT INTO user(UserID,UserKey) VALUES('1','');

That lets me past several of the initialisation steps. The next problem is trying to set up a notebook: I get 'Sync required to download the required handwriting recognition resources'. Can I find these anywhere online?

And if I can find those, am I going to find I am continually fighting the software to carry on without syncing? Although my preference is not to, if I have to, I have to.

Thanks

Stop being paranoid and just register properly. I've had a account at Kobo for at least 9 years. I've had a registered Kobo for 8 years. I've had no issues with Kobo having my information. I don't know of anyone who ever had an issue being properly registered. Kobo is in Canada and they take privacy laws very seriously.

Nobody on MR has posted that they had an issue with Kobo and being properly registered.

I prefer to side load. But I also prefer to be properly registered. It means I can buy eBooks from Kobo when I want. I see no reason to buy a Reader from a company you don't trust enough to register with.

You can still buy ebooks from Kobo (via PC) when in SideloadedMode.

I do agree there is no point in not registering, but people don't have to. Unlike Android, Apple and Amazon Kindle it's not crippled.
