Hi Guys,

Back again,

Left the unit on charge all last night, red light indicated it was charging......

This morning, tried to turn it on, nothing happened.
Tried to reset, by holding in reset button at back for 30 seconds......, and then using the on-off toggle switch, i tried to switch unit back on....again nothing.

Is there anything else i might try ???

Thanks Patricia,

Will try the long charge, I do have a PSP charger, so i will use that.

A question about the " Hard Reset"
It states in the link that i should hold the " MARK " and " Volume + " buttons down after resetting.
My PRS 700 does not have a " MARK " button, should this read the " BACK " button ????

the hard reset procedure is slightly different for the 700 than for the 505, since they don't have the same buttons. i found this information on the sonystyle site, in their support / faq and solutions section.

WARNING: A hard reset will erase all content on the Reader.

1. Ensure the Reader is powered off by checking that the indicator next to the power button [FIG. 1] is not illuminated.

2. On the back of the Reader, using the stylus, press the RESET button.

3. Turn on the Reader.

4. While the screen displays Starting up... , simultaneously press and hold down the back [FIG. 2] button and the VOL + button until the Reset All screen is displayed.

NOTE: If Starting up... does not display on the screen, charge the Reader's battery for several hours before attempting the reset process again.

5. Touch Yes to reset the Reader.

hopefully charging it with the psp charger will do the trick. good luck !

Thanks Zelda,

I really appreciate you digging up that info.

My problem seems to be at STEP 4 above.
My reader does not display " Starting up ".

At best the LED on top turns yellow and blinks a total of 9 times ( i have counted this each time, and it is the same)
Then after the 9 blinks, nothing.

Also, the PSP charger will only work sometimes, judging by the LED.
And the I-Library will not recognise the I-Reader every time.

Very Confused and dis-heartened.

yes, i can imagine you are, i certainly would be. i wonder where is igorsk and the other resident experts ?? i admit i'm a bit at a loss, i know next to nothing about this stuff, after "did you try charging it ?" and "did you try a reset ?" i've pretty much exhausted my arsenal...

thinking, thinking... ok, you said you have already deleted all the books. just to be sure, can you say what exactly you deleted (only the epub/lrf/whatever files inside the folder ? folder as well? all content and folders on the drive ?). also, when mine got stuck the file was still on there, but perhaps the second part of the advice igorsk gave me can help you :

6. if that didn't help, repeat 1-4 but format the drive instead.
perhaps you need to reformat the drive.

mine was also flashing yellow sometimes, although i didn't count.

also, note : after a reset, if you cannot turn on the 700 manually, it will take about 5 minutes to turn on by itself when you plug in the usb cable. just wait for it until you see it appear.

hopefully igorsk will appear soon and have some good ideas.

Zelda,

I'm loving your hard work, Thanks.

To your question regarding which items i deleted.
I only deleted all the books. I left the images and audio.

Is it possible to delete everything on the readers drive.
e.g. goto " My computer " find the readers external drive and delete all folders found ?
or is there an easier way to re format ?

i don't actually know if there is a specific way to reformat ; the way i would think of is go to my computer, right click on sony external drive, "format drive". but perhaps there is a different way you should do it. don't try anything until we hear from igorsk. i'm going to leave a message on his profile ; maybe he hasn't seen this thread (or maybe he's on vacation, but i hope not !).

Hi Merlock,

No, I found no information in the manual regarding formatting.

It does mention re-setting, but it only mentions that you can reset the unit by pressing the reset button, and then toggleing the on-off switch.
