Oddly, when I have less than 3 books waiting to be read, I don't get the quick tour but rather a more books by author in that place on the screen whether I have parental controls enabled or disabled.

Given your multiple complaints about odd behaviour on your Forma, I would suggest a factory reset, installing the latest firmware and then not applying any patches for a while to see if this clears up some of your issues. You can use Kobo Utilities/Kobo Touch driver to back up the reading stats and positions so you can restore your 747 finished books (going by your image which seems to show 2 books in progress and 2 unread out of 751 total.

Please note that that space on your screen will be used by something if you do not have enough books in progress (status = reading) to extend across the middle of the screen.

Another possibility to look at is which editor you are using to edit the Kobo eReader.conf file. Under Windows, you need to use an editor such as NotePad++ which respects Linux LF line endings.

Hi dnsb,

I use Linux mint. And the editor I used to edit the CONF file is called XED

I have More than 10 boocks that are in progress.

When you see two unread books in the screenshot which I shared, it's two unread books by one author. Just thought I would clarify that.

SideLoadedMode=true and then you don't see the default home Screen or Discovery icons. My Books is then the Home Screen, which is more useful.

What are the side effects of doing this?

Apart from not been able to access the Kobo store (which I don't use anyway), I have had zero problem using Side Mode. There again, all my books are side loaded and WIFI is turned off.

No shop/store on the device. If buying at Kobo use Download to PC and Calibre etc.
No sync to your Kobo account / other kobos.

Bottom Icons are then My Books (new Home screen), Activity and More.
If you've installed the custom menu / KOReader it's the last icon.
For Sage & Elipsa there is "My Notebooks" (only on Sage if Pen detected).

Everyone here prefers this mode.

I don't use Kobo store so sounds like I won't experience any side effects

You can sync one Kobo to another Kobo?
I don't need access to Kobo store so I think I'm okay with losing access to the store.

I haven't installed custom icon/KOreader, but perhaps I'll look into those.

The only books that get synced from one Kobo to another Kobo are books purchased from Kobo and synced to your Kobo ereaders. Obviously, this will not work if Sideloaded mode is enabled.

You can store information in calibre and sync it to your Kobos over USB but that is a slow and clumsy process requiring multiple connections.

The only Sync feature working when SideloadedMode=true is FW update. Just tested on a Libra 2.

But Sync only syncs books bought from Kobo and on same account.

You can also sync to get dictionaries in sideload mode.

That makes sense.

So there is little to no disadvantage of Sideloaded mode especially if you only have one kobo and buy via PC/Mac/Linux. I have several Kobo, but never used sync for ebook status except once to test.

Not very clumsy if you only ever load ereaders via Calibre anyway. I've only ever bothered with a full sync via Calibre when swapping to a newer Kobo.

I've used sync for ebook status after factory resetting and setting up a new Kobo. However one friend uses it to sync his two Kobos and I find the multiple connections needed to be a bit painful. He needs to connect both Kobos to update calibre and another connection to update the first Kobo.

I don't see sideload in the conf file, nor in the four src files (in kobopatch)

Where can I find it?
