As far as I know you can and could always launch multiple copies of Sigil on Linux and Windows side by side.

Yep. I have multiple Sigil instances open quite often on both Linux and Windows.
I mean you can't have the same .epub open in multiple instances of Sigil, but then why would anyone want to? Last edited by DiapDealer; 09-05-2023 at 08:09 PM. |

I especially did not expect a storm of applause in the essence of my proposal. The new is always met with misunderstanding by different retrogrades. A fully functional Sigil is not a wheel, as you put it, but a logical progression, an evolutionary development if you will. By the way, there is one contradiction. In your approach to creating ePub, you methodically promote the "one section (chapter) - one file" principle. For example, your user manual has 61 files, not including css and special files. Many sections and parts are closely related to each other both in meaning and in content, and everything is united together by style sheets. If you open all this for editing, searching, styling and table of contents ... in general, for normal work, then your finger will quickly fall off from switching between tabs and windows. And so, in one area style sheets, special and main files are open, in the other area - the current edited files. Of course, I do not pretend to be the ultimate truth and do not tell you what to do. This is just my opinion. |

You're not saying anything others have not already tried to tell us we should do. We understand everything you (and they) said. We simply disagree that Sigil should incorporate your ideas. That is all. Don't read too much into it. If your ideas are shared by enough people, others are free to fork Sigil's codebase and create the functionality you desire. That's how opensource software development works. |

In addition, If you are editing an xhtml page, it will show up in Preview like normal. Then open a tab with its css, you can edit the css and watch its impact on the xhtml that is shown in Preview.
And, anyone can just use Sigil's "open with" to open a separate editor and window with the CSS and then use CodeView at the same time to edit the xhtml, while observing changes in Preview. Ditto for editing two xhtml files at the same time. I really can not see any advantage to what you are suggesting that can not be done with Sigil right now. You just have to use the existing features of Sigil. Certainly nit worth a major overhaul or redesign. Last edited by KevinH; 09-06-2023 at 12:06 PM. |
