In case you are not aware, you can filter the library to display only those books between two dates. Type the following into the search box at the top of the book list...

date:>=2023-01-1 and date:<=2023-12-31

You can also save that search and just click on it whenever you need it.

I have two columns that depend on the read end date.
For the year with this template:
program: ifempty(format_date(raw_field('#name of your column date finished', ''), 'yyyy'), 'No year')

And a virtual library with this search
#name of your column date finished:=2023

date:"2023" works just as well.
