Nearly useless. It shouldn't have the last (up to 3) books added. On a Sage or Elipsa it's a useful way to swap between a book and an Advanced Notebook you created for more than simple annotations (or exportable PDF annotations).
Maybe there needs to be a checkbox to "lock" an item in the list and it should ONLY have things actually opened.
If you are doing research and a main book and loads of other books, you'd want to lock your main book and advanced Notebook related to research on the list.

I agree, an interesting idea but badly implemented.

I've grown to like it, because I can use it to quickly switch between my day book and my night book. The gesture is way too sensitive, however, and as you've already said, having it display the last 3 books accessed, when newly added books count as being accessed, is a poor implementation. IMHO it should show the last 3 items you actually opened and not be affected by adding new books.

Instead of showing the last three books added to the device, it should show (in order):
  1. any other books marked as in progress
  2. next book in series
  3. most recently added books
What it should show is they last three books you've opened. It should not show books just because you've added them.

Also, there is no privacy issue showing the three books.

Does this seem like something that the Kobo Utilities could help with? You plug in your reader, tell Kobo Utilities to save recently read. Do your side loading with Calibre. Eject. plug in your Kobo. Tell Kobo utilities to restore recently read. Eject.

Easy for me to say.

There is a bug. It shouldn't list unread books just because you added them.

It's doing it by date. I agree it should not do it for unread books. I cannot say if it's on purpose or a bug.

Disable "Recently Opened" feature?

That’s only for the Discover tab, as other pointed out. It’s more of a privacy feature, but I can’t see any difference in the Discover tab whether it’s checked on or off!

Install Nickelclock and you can have the battery percentage permanently on display at the top. One less swipe for you
(I use it to display the time on the LHS and the battery percent on the RHS)

That's exactly what I said in the post you quoted.

Though, I tend to only open one book at a time. My current read is Airport. The last book I opened would be Moby Dick. But I completed that book. So I wouldn't want Moby Dick to show up in recently opened. That's why I listed a hierarchy.

I don't see it as a privacy issue anyway.

Also books you finished should maybe be excluded?

Either it's not well thought out, or is unfinished, or has bugs, or needs adtitional user options (or some combination of these).

But it can only be ignored, not disabled. I'd like to to use it more, but it's badly designed or broken.

If you were replying to me? I already said that as well.

At any rate, as it works now, I don't believe it does show books marked as finished.

That I agree with. They introduced something that shows potential. But then seem to have forgotten it, so it sits there being nothing more than an annoyance.

Oh! I must add so many books my finished books never get a chance to show (and to be fair, I also don't often look at the recently finished. I rarely trigger it even by accident).

I considered that, but I don't want to waste screen real estate on information I only need periodically. I have both the header and footer disabled, as I can check the clock and battery by opening the menu. There's no way to add the battery percentage to the menu header, so I came up with my own solution.
