Which patch are you talking about? The one I mentioned in post #9? or is ther an additional one?

I haven't checked an ePub on Kobo, but on Nooks ePubs definitely have better layout than default kepub on Kobo. I think Nook and Kobo use the same Adobe RMSDK for ePub.

With geometricPrecision, Set KePub hyphenation and the better hyphenation dictionary, kepub looks much better than it used to.

I still get occasionaly get weird issues where a single word will be all s p a c e d out. I think it has to do with where kepub places the spans.

Given that you don't like hyphenation, give ChareInk6SP a try. It has a smaller space and may look better without hyphenation.

No. There's a patch for reducing the default minimal word spacing still further (you can specify how much) and it helps with occasional wide spaces between words.

Letter spacing is a whole other issue and happens if you enable ligatures and kerning in kepubs. I don't enable them and never get any weird letter spacing like in your example.

It's due to geometricPrecision and any of the other options to turn on enhanced typesetting. But it doesn't happen all that much.

I would not like reading any KePub without kerning. I'm not bothered by not having ligatures.

Oh yeah! I remember messing with that one before. I guess I didn't notice enough difference to remember to keep using it though.

Well, I couldn't care less about either, so I don't enable them. I enable the OptimizeSpeed option instead.

I like the ligatures. I remember noticing that something starting with 'fi' would look funny on my old Nook ST, depending on which font I used. I could live with it, because ereaders were such a wonderful discovery. But hey, if ligatures can be turned in, I do it.

There is a difference (I compared the same text before and after via screenshots), but it's not huge. It's more noticeable if you disable hyphenation, as I do. In your case the difference may be very small.
