Now that I know why it's happening, I can live with it while you're looking into it. I only reach for the Copy->All book details feature occasionally - my libraries have sub 10 sec startup times, so the occasionally retard isn't much of a hardship.
I'll come back if I spot any other differences between Wide and Narrow. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 05-09-2023 at 03:55 AM. |

I can also confirm that the latest push to book_details.py doesn't fix it.

@kovid: the problem is the table embedded in a table in narrow view. If I skip the outermost <td> when simplifying the HTML then it sort-of works. By 'sort-of' I mean that the output has line breaks etc but isn't the same as one gets in wide view. Another problem: passing to do_copy() whether it is narrow or wide -- this seems to require a signature change. Better would be to encode this into the HTML, perhaps as an identifier in the extra <table>.
I don't follow the HTML manipulations you are doing and am not skilled with etree etc, so I think me trying to fix it correctly will just waste your time. ![]() |

@kovid, @chaley - on reflection, what I'd prefer is a newline separated 'dump' of all column header names and values in header name order irrespective of how the embedded or free-standing Book Details panels are configured.
Maybe via a "Copy book metadata" item in the Book details menu. And… I don't have to change the User interface layout to get a side panel BD, I can just press K or I and copy from the pop-up BD. Why didn't I try that in the first instance ![]() BR Last edited by BetterRed; 05-09-2023 at 06:31 AM. Reason: And… |

Currently multi-value columns (e.g. Authors, Tags, Formats etc) on Copy->All book details, are concatenated with no separators - i.e. Tags displayed as "Banking, Economic History, Economics, Political Science" is copied as "BankingEconomic HistoryEconomicsPolitical Science".
The Copy->All book details term is potentially misleading- it only copies those columns that are displayed in the book details panel. So, I still think there's a need for something that provides a 'dump' of all metadata for a book - perhaps as Tab separated "Header, Value" pairs that can be read into something like CSVFileView, Excel, Calc etc. BR |

That was only if you had them displayed on separate lines and is now fixed. There is already a copy metadata action in the edit metadata menu if you want to copy all metadata. This one is designed to copy the text from the book details panel only. And if you want to export data in CSV/XML etc use the create catalog tool.
