From my VM install of Kubuntu 22.03, Wayland can be installed but is not a default. You would have to install the plasma workspace Wayland package to use Wayland. After some limited testing, I removed it. Definitely not ready for prime time yet.

Found the problem (vertical_scrolling_per_row = True), soon to be fixed https://bugs.launchpad.net/calibre/+bug/2018660
