::written at work:: just before leaving for work, I found the button at the top of Calibre where you can tell the program where to save files. If I tell Calibre to send the files to a new directory for storage, will all of the books I currently have in Calibre be backed up into the new directory I would make or would Calibre only backup new files since the creation of the new destination directory that will not be backed up by Google drive thingie. Hope that makes sense.
I just want to get back to using Calibre without error issues that prevent me from editing the metadata/book titles the way I prefer and converting books into my preferred epub format. |

In another message I mentioned that I found in Calibre, where I can point the files to a new directory that I wouldn’t have backed up by Google Drive. Kovid, do you think that will stop the issue? |

I can't answer the Q on how to configure GD as I avoid it (and other cloud solutions. My backups are Manually launched, to local storage while Calibre is shut down)
In General: Never allow ANY sync to be 2 way <=>, only allow a Mirror (copy) to be made. 2 way makes changes under the skirts that the Local DB might not get. As to the FAQ Click Calibre's Help The FAQ are a dynamic work. ![]() The FAQ tend to cover Frequent discovered issues and solutions. As I understand it: The GD one, was discovered years ago. Their 'versioning' method and Calibre {id} clash. |

To move your library to a new location:
Right-click on the library button -> Switch/create library -> choose a new directory by clicking the blue navigation button -> Move the current library to new location. |

See I am getting errors with my calibre library on a networked drive/NAS? for the FAQ entry.
Did you go into the Google Drive Backup and Sync (should be located in the system tray). Open preferences, select sync only these folders, add the folders you want synced, exclude the ones you don't want synced. To move your library, close calibre and copy your library to a new unbacked up location. Open calibre, and under the library drop down menu, open Switch/create library. Browse to your new library location, make sure the Use the previously existing library at the new location radio button is selected and click okay. Check the library and all looks good, you can remove the old library. I prefer this to allowing calibre to move the library. |

I’ll give that a try when I get home from work. Just hope the backup link doesn’t stay active. If this works, I’ll be a happy camper as I’ll be back to editing the metadata on my books into my preferred format.

I so hope that this works. I just need to make a reminder to popup to remind me to backup that directory manually ![]() Thank you all for helping me figure out what was causing the problem. Some programs just don't play nicely together. |
