There is no issue with ampersands. ampersands are perfectly fine in long paths. I tried the following steps in my windows 11 system
1) Change the title of "Pride and Prejudice" to "Pride & Prejudice" 2) No errors observed 3) Change the title back to "Pride and Prejudice" 4) No errors observed 5) All book files moved successfully as expected I am guessing you likely have some security software that is inserting itself into this and choking on the ampersands. Try excluding your calibre library folder from such software. |

I grabbed Sysinternals Process Monitor and recorded Calibre during the error
I have attached the output of procmon in native and CSV formats.
I get 4 events like this one before Calibre shows me the error message: 2:22:39.3162815 PM calibre.exe 34900 SetDispositionInformationEx C:\Users\Richard\Calibre Library\Aaron Allston\Star Wars_ Fate of the Jedi_ Backla (2247) CANNOT DELETE Flags: FILE_DISPOSITION_DELETE, FILE_DISPOSITION_POSIX_SEMANTICS, FILE_DISPOSITION_FORCE_IMAGE_SECTION_CHECK I am totally open to the idea that this is some weird interaction on my system. Unfortunately for me Calibre is the only application to exhibit symptoms. |

I broadened the procmon to all processes touching the Calibre Library path and tried again. I noticed a bunch of SearchIndexer activity around the same time so I excluded the library from Windows indexing, but that had no effect.

I used procmon to monitor deleting files in that path using Explorer
I have attached those log files. Here I get events like this:
3:00:19.6959137 PM Explorer.EXE 1340 SetDispositionInformationFile C:\Users\Richard\Calibre Library\Aaron Allston\Betrayal_ Star Wars Legends (Legacy (2247) NOT EMPTY Delete: True I'm using a non-Admin account that has rights to the directory structure. And another note. I can use the library maintenance to delete extra folders just fine. I attached 3 screengrabs showing it. |

I dont see anything useful in those logs. For somereason deleting the file is failing on your system, its something specific to your system. Unfortunately I am not enough of a windows guru to tell you how to figure out what that is.

And 6.20 has seemingly solved my problem. I can't recreate the issue anymore after updating.
"Windows: Make moving files in the calibre library folder more robust, locking folders in addition to files, before the start of the move" |
