Thanks for the suggestions, will try some of them when I have a chance.

I have at least a couple of books with this issue.

One other item is that I've run into several .mobi files that were not from Amazon and were dual format mobi/kf8. KindleUnpack was handy with those.

When Tor gives away free eBooks, the Kindle edition they give away is a dual-Mobi.

Yes, I've never had trouble with those.

Try converting MOBI to docx. This allows you to edit the docx file in pre-2010 versions of Word. Strip off the garbage that prevents you from converting MOBI to AZW3 or EPUB in Calibre. I had a 25-novel MOBI file that sent Calibre into an infinite loop (where it could not get the TOC properly managed). Just try a docx to AZW3 or EPUB conversion.

You mean Word 2007 and later or earlier versions that had the docx plugin. Certainly I have a patched Word XP/2002 that can read docx, but my 2003 version can't because MS has removed the download to add docx.

Or any version of LO Writer in the last 10 years. Or latest.
For pre-2007 Word you usually need RTF export.

The 2010 version milestone is irrelevant.
