With a little private help, I got the script and got it working. Decoded the one DRMed Mobi book I had, and converted it to LRF in Calibre. (The EPUB conversion failed.) This was a sizable book, with a huge number of links, so I wasn't sure how well it would work. But it seems to have done fine.

I was also wondering for future purchases, since in many cases, I'll want to share with my wife, who's got an ipod Touch. (Thus my general preference for epub over lrf.) We'll try tomorrow and see if she can read the nonDRM mobipocket version in Stanza.

My previous device was privately called "Turd" because it was so ugly (but I loved it so much!). My new 505 hasn't distinguished itself enough to be named yet. It's sort of bland compared to the spunky can-do spirit of my old EBW-1150.
Ooohhhh! A new 505. Congratulations. What color is it?

I think you van call it Fred. That's a good name.

This might be obvious to everybody already, but here goes. The problems that I have had with the Sony software all occurred when I had it running and then connected my 505. If I have the 505 connected before I load the eBook Library software, I don't have any crashes or other programs. I've also found that sometimes for no apparent reason, it just begins to run very slowly. Normally I have a pretty short tolerance for this sort of thing and shut a slow program down and try to restart it, but with eBook Library this just causes problems. I have to walk away for a while (go and read) and it's usually fine when I get back.

On the subject of naming our devices, I call mine my TexTee. This was the name I thought up for similar reading devices in a science fiction story I wrote called "His Robot Girlfriend". :: shameless plug:: You can download a pdf of this story free at amathar.blogspot.com.

My eBook Library doesn't connect to the Sony store, it connects to Waterstones. Is that because I'm in the UK?

I can see no way of actually getting onto the Sony ebook store although I have registered my ereader with mysony.

My de-DRMing method of choice is to DL the book from IRC or bitTorrent after I buy it. Works on any DRM system there is, though the book has to be out there.

Yes, it's because you are in the UK. The Sony ebook store is only for the US. Some people have manage to get around this by using gift cards from the US. There's a member in this forum (search for it) that does it and you can pay him by Paypal. All you need to do is download the library software and use your gift card and you can purchase from the store.
